1992 Firebird 3.1 not running

I am new to the V6 world and already regretting it. I have a 87 formula and past V8 cars and loved them and figured it would be cool to have a nice 3.1 as a daily. But no, instead I got the car and the guy said he put a fuel pump in it and didn't have time to work on it and sold it. I bought it and put new fuel line, fuel filter and spark plugs and its doing the same thing. You can hear the pump and it cranks and fires right up but stalls 5 seconds later, but I cant say it even stalls because I really don't even let off the key. I cracked open the fuel line that comes up by the master cylinder and there was fuel that sprayed out, I fuel pressure tested it and got 50 psi so that's good, I noid tested it and the injector I tested was good (I tested the first injector on the passenger side). I replaced the tps sensor because I saw on this forum that those can do that. it maybe ran for 7 seconds now. I also thought it could be the security system so I got a junk key from an old Camaro and got a chip with the same resistance which was a 6 and soldered it between the 2 white wires running up the column. I took the upper plenum off and resistance tested the injectors and all except two were over 12.2, one was 11.8 and the other was 8.6. I put a paper towel down to see if they are spraying and not a single one is even wet. Could this be because I took the upper plenum all the way off? And not to mention the car will only click now so I put the charger on it to see if its the battery that is low. I'm getting pretty frustrated with this car and am already thinking about 327 swapping or something I have sitting around. Any help is much appreciated. If anyone needs more info about what I did I'd be happy to do anything to get this stupid thing to drive. -Thank you

Sounds like the injectors are junk. They're multecs, if they're original you can bank on them being junk. I can't remember how many times I replaced flaky injectors in my 91 V6. Eventually made a good set from 3 or 4 sets of used injectors and then it was fine for years.

Re: 1992 Firebird 3.1 not running

How hard would it be to swap my 305 TPI into the V6 car. I have the K member or (engine cradle) from a V8 car. I would just have to buy mounts. When I swapped the 305 with the 383 I kept everything and I have an extra 700r4 and I can get a driveshaft just in case. I would have to rip the ECM out of my Formula and connect the wires up again. I would like to keep the A/C in the V6 car but I'm sure it's not compatible with the V8 motor. I have an extra V8 fuel pump and the 305 will be a start up and go since it hasn't sat long and has 10,000 miles on it. I have a lot done to that 305 so it would be a great motor as just a street car and I would like to do a EGR delete since I'm allowed to do that where I live so if anyone has done that I'd like to know how to pull that off since I can't find much on that. I did this to my other Birds and cut the cats off. Any more info on this swap would be appreciated.

A couple of things to mention ;

First and foremost , if this car is a daily driver/beater you'll be many dollars ahead to go and diagnose and repair the problem that's keeping the V6 from running rather than trying to V8 convert it .

With that said , the engine cradle is the same for V8 VS V6 . If you look you'll see there are two sets of mounting holes for the different engine's motor mounts . The driveshafts are also the same , but as you've noted the transmissions are not the same (you say you already have a V8 transmission so no problem there) . The exhaust system is different , at least at the Y pipe anyway , I'm not sure if the rest of the exhaust would work or not . The front springs are different , the V6 springs being lighter than the V8 and will likely sag a bit too much under the V8's increased weight . You'll need a V8 TPI harness / ECM , you've mentioned taking the ECM from a different car but what of the harness , do you have one of those ?

Last thought , not that it's a big deal but is worth mentioning ; About the EGR , while you may have no emissions inspection where you live , if you live anywhere in the USA it's against federal law to disable any emission control equipment on any car . Yes of course I know there are thousands of modified cars running around , I just figured you should know that the feds don't allow it , not that any federal inspector dudes are gonna be lifting you hood to see what's still there or not

Yes I have the whole harness and everything from the 305 and I have extra springs because I put softer springs on my Formula for weight transfer while drag racing. I have the stock exhaust from the Formula because I got a Borla system. I have the 305 radiator and pulleys. I even marked and named every wire are connector.
