Valve Cover Clearence & Valve Springs For Boost?
Hi Guys,
I've been looking at cam/rocker upgrades for my 3.1 V6 and would like to go with the Edelbrock 3790 cam/lifter kit and Comp CL16-233-4 1.6:1 roller tip rockers, but I'm concerned they may not clear the stock valve covers. According to this thread, the Comp 260h cam and 1.6 rockers clear, but (if my math is right) that combo has a max lift of .470 and the edelbrock & 1.6 combo has .472. What's the maximum lift the stock valve covers will allow?
I assume .002 won't be a problem with the stock covers, pushrods, etc. but I thought I'd double-check with the experts.
Second question: I plan on supercharging this engine and running ~7 PSI of boost. What valve springs would be best for that level of boost and not require machining the heads? I don't know much about valve springs, but from what I've read the Crane 99848's are a drop in replacement, but not really enough of an upgrade for boost and the Crane 99838's need the heads machined and locks + retainers added. I would like to avoid machining the heads if possible. Someone mentioned the K-Motion K700's and Melling VS-380's should work. Any thoughts?
Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere, but I've done a lot of searching and haven't found a definitive answer...
