car damaged getting off trailer

So last weekend i was moving and got to my new place and proceded to unload my car. few hours later i had it off and torn up.
ripped the exhaust off at the y pipe and something broke in the trans. its a 5 speed. best way to go about troubleshooting the transmission with out removing it? its also stuck in a forward gear.. probably. the shifter moves funky so i know its screwed up. tore up the trailer getting the car off also.. not happy camper. more things to fix..have to fix my car so i can drive it. truck needs work and i don't want both vehicals down. i would rather not drop the trans out. last time it was out was 2008. when i replaced the engine and i have a new clutch for it if need be.

Was this a liquor fueled adventure? How do you go about mangling the car that bad from just taking it off a trailer

Yeah I've been guilty of doing the same thing after a few adult beverages...

no beverages involved. got high centered getting off trailer and the rear edge of the trailer got ripped up and caught under the car. ended up dragging the car off the trailer with my truck since it was stuck so bad. probably didn't help. the main problem is the car is stuck in gear and can't shift it out of gear. shifter moves but its not changing gears.

Ouch it hurts more when you do it while sober...

OK so before we start pulling the trans out I would start with looking to see if the shifter is actually engaging with the transmission. Pull out the console, pull back the carpet, remove the rubber shifter boot, and then pull out the stick itself to see if somehow the ball popped out of the socket or is broke. If it is then that will be an easy fix and if not you're probably going to have to pull the trans because you either have it bound up somehow from pulling it, or you broke a shift fork, gear, or something else internally.
