Is there a reason why my 2.8L V6 engine does not have a Radiator Fan Switch in the block? I can not even locate the electrical pigtail connector for the switch anywhere.
I thought there had to be a switch for the coolant fan to operate. I have not recently heard the fan running, but I know there is nothing wrong with the fan motor or the coolant fan relay.
If I insert a pin in A&B of OBD connector, the fan will run.
My engine does have a cooling temperature sending unit and a coolant temperature sensor.. One is located next to the thermostat housing and one is located to the rear of the air compressor with a single wire connector.

1986 Sport Coupe 2.8L V6

 

Not sure about an '86, but if it has one it will be located on the passenger side of engine. In the cylinder head between 3 & 5. Appears that it would be below or behind the ignition coil.

There is a place in the block for it, but it has a allen head plug in it. Don't know why that is and I am unable to locate a electrical pigtail for the switch. I am assuming that the previous owner or who ever worked on the car must have eliminated it for what reasons I have no clue.

 

Just wanted to let you know, I have located the Radiator Fan Switch. It is exactly where you said it was, down underneath the coli bracket back near the transmission dipstick right to the rear of the valve cover. Have yet to figure out how to get to it. I guess I'll have to remove the bracket that holds the coil. It's really not in a easy accessible location. Thanks again, if you would not have told me where to look, I would never have found that thing.

Radiator Fan Switch seems to have my fan working again; however, I did install a standard Motor Products TS 147 switch. Can any one out there tell me at what temperature this switch will cut-in and cut-out. No one seems to know the answer to this question.

TS147 is normally open,so it closes at 222 to 238 degrees F.
