Hey guys just picked up this 88 2.8L v6 automatic last week with 90k miles. Starts right up but stays at 7k rpm. I drove it about 4 miles and it stayed at 7k. The muffler has a huge cut in it but I'm waiting on a replacement. The car was also losing some power during turns. So far I've only changed the oil. I'm going to be changing the rest of the fluids and spark plugs. Got all new weather stripping and a new seat coming so I'm hoping to be driving it regularly soon.
Video of me starting it and engine bay while running.

I can 101% assure you of one thing here, your engine is NOT turning 7000 RPM.
Your video link doesn't work so I couldn't see it, and I can believe your idle may be somewhat high, but more like high in the 1500 RPM range VS the 7000 RPM your tach is telling you. Just so you know, the tach falsely reading crazy high RPMs is a very well known and very common failure point on our cars, and any kind of tuning regarding setting the idle is gonna require a good quality automotive technician's type of tach VS relying on the widely inaccurate on it's best days tach that's mounted in our dashboards.........

Hey so when I originally looked I hadn't seen any other complaints of the high tach reading. I have since found a ton of threads and I ordered a new pre calibrated tach board to see if that will fix it. Also the video still seems to work for me so I'm unsure why it's not playing for you. Also I did notice the power loss during turns so I thought that might also indicate an issue with the rpm reading high. Any ideas as to what I might do about that?
