2.8 V6 Was running and now won't

So I rebuilt my V6 and it was running and now it will spin over but will not start. All sensors are new, new fuel injectors, repaired several harnesses and replaced the relays. There is also no blown fuses. All the grounds seem to be properly connected.

The last day it ran I parked it in my driveway and shut it off. I went out to start it the next morning and it was dead. I charged the battery and it would not start. Had smoke start coming off the right side (passenger side) of the motor. Turned the ignition off and disconnected the battery as I smelt burnt wires. Found the wires shorted at the Fusible Links. I repaired the wires and now it does not start. Has proper fuel pressure, spark and air.

Anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?

1989 Firebird 2.8 ltr,

Shoot a small amount of starting fluid (ether) into the intake, and see if the engine will momentarily fire. If so, you likely have a fuel problem; if it doesn't fire, recheck for spark at the plugs.

If starting fluid causes the engine to run momentarily, you're not getting fuel. If, as you state, you have correct fuel pressure to the injectors, it sounds like the injectors aren't getting a signal to fire. Check there next with a noid light. If no signal at the injectors, check to see if the PCM is getting power. If it is (I have no idea what caused your short), it might be that that the PCM got roasted in the process.

I checked spark with a spark tester and I have spark, tho ether did not help. Its been raining so I didn't get too far into it today and I have a second computer I can try after I check injectors. I am also going to check timing even tho it ran prior to it not running. I need this motor to run until I get all of the stuff for my LS Swap acquired.

Ok, I got it fixed. The starter was bad. It was spinning over but had such a power draw that the computer could not send a signal to the ignition and fuel injectors. Got the starter replaced, cleaned all the carbon off of the plugs as they were trying to work but couldn't get enough power to fire properly. So thats a new one on me as I have only seen starters quit working at all.

Took my first trip in it today in 8.5 years when I blew up the engine.
