"just won't crank" as in engine won't crank when the key is turned to start? How about with a battery charger hooked to the battery or jumper cables?
Or do you mean it cranks over but will not start?

Take your spark control module out from underneath your distributor cap
it should be held in with two tiny bolts, take it down to your local auto parts store
and have it tested. Mine was doing that and I replaces the module and it kicks right over.
Get back to me on this.

kstone, thanks for reply......I did take the module to oreillys, tested fine with 5 tests......
I did notice the teeth,or whatever the star lookin area in bottom of dist. were really rusty like....the roror button, and cap were both very corroded as well....I have new cap,and rotor but not replaced yet......I did clean the old ones and put back on,but still no fire.....I just picked up new stuff when I had the module tested.....
any more ideas?....could it be the switch under steer column?....
should I try all the new parts before I go any further?....
is the dist. being rusty a possible problem?...
thanks again,jd

-How do you know the coil is good?
-How do you know the engine is getting fuel? If you don't have a working pickup and an HEI module that at least somewhat works the injectors won't work at all.
-Have you established you have power at the coil yet?
-Have you connected a spark plug to the distributor side of the coil wire, cranked and see if you had spark?
-If your module checked good, did you check the pick up?
-Hard to check, but what about the ECU?
I'd start with the earlier stuff first, it's way easier to check that stuff than shotgun in parts. If the reason your coil is "good" is because it's new, I wouldn't make that assumption 100% and ohm the coil out. You never know honestly.

-How do you know the coil is good?(I took it and put in my truck, cranked right up)
-How do you know the engine is getting fuel?(sprayed start fluid in there, still not crank)(I can hear fuel pump, smell fuel, etc.)
If you don't have a working pickup and an HEI module that at least somewhat works the injectors won't work at all.
-Have you established you have power at the coil yet?(not sure???)
-Have you connected a spark plug to the distributor side of the coil wire, cranked and see if you had spark?(yes,no spark)....
-If your module checked good, did you check the pick up?(what is pick up??)
-Hard to check, but what about the ECU?(what is ECU????)

Thanks for all your help....
You recommend me using parts I bought already?...then go from there?./....should I wait till last on the ign switch that goes on column?.....could that even be the problem?....
