Hi everyone, I have an issue with my 1982 firebird sputtering on acceleration when coming from a stop. I
have to slowly press the gas pedal down and it “catches up”. Speedometer fluctuates at low speeds. I posted this on the carburetors thread on accident I believe so I’m gonna copy and paste the link from there to here below:
Thats my original post on the carb section, just want to make sure I’m in the right thread.
I read on previous posts regarding this his issue and I know it could be various things but I am gonna change the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and oil (picture below of parts I got ready to install). I put it royal purple fuel cleaner just a shot in the dark and when I filled the tank with gas after that it ran good for about a few miles, then started sputtering again. The previous owner I bought it from told me it needs a tune up and I’ll be set so I’m hoping after I install the parts and change the oil it will cure the sputtering. If anybody has heard that sputtering sound in the vid I posted below and has resolved that issue please let me know. If the tune up don’t fix it or hen it has to be a vacuum issue I’m assuming? Anyways sorry for the long story book post here. Thanks again and feel free to guide me to the correct path if you guy’s experienced this. I’ll post updates on both threads. Have a great day!
changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and it fixed that sputtering issue. Took me all day didn’t change the oil yet but planning too. I thank everyone who posts for giving me the tools to trouble shoot problems, appreciate y’all so much! Y’all take care now!
