Hi everyone! I was putting gas in the firebird earlier today, and when I was leaving the gas station I was accelerating to leave the lot it started “sputtering/flooding”? I don’t know what is the correct term to use for this issue forgive me if I’m wrong. Between 0-25 mph at lower RPMs it has been doing this since i got home and parked it. If I don’t push down to hard on the gas pedal and I slowly ease it to higher speeds it kinda catches up on its own is the best way I can say it? If I push down to hard or floor it it sputters worse? It sounds like burst of air or something is coming out from under the hood somewhere on the driver side when it makes that noise. It’s fine on the freeway at higher speeds it’s just coming from a stop, and taking off it has a sputter. I attached a video with my phone sitting on the dash trying my best to record the sound it’s making, and I also noticed my speedometer needle is fluctuating as well? I changed the fuel filter (to which we know and me twisting the fuel line issue haha) and the carb air filter is good as well. If anyone can chime in with some insight on how I could fix this issue would be super greatly appreciated! Thank you everyone! Hope y’all is having a great Saturday!
Hi everyone, I just realized this topic has been posted before in the past. I should have searched first before posting, my apologies. Newbie error on my end. I plan on changing the oil so since I’m down there I’m gonna change the spark plugs out with some ac delco plugs. I’ll post updates untill I resolve this “sputtering” issue.
Hey what’s up everybody, got all the parts for a tune up. Gonna change the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor and do an oil change. Haven’t gotten a chance to execute this yet, been so busy. I’ll keep everyone updated how this goes along, car needs a tune up anyway, the previous owner told me that as well so I figure why not and fingers crossed it resolves that “sputter”. Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.
changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and it fixed that sputtering issue. Took me all day didn’t change the oil yet but planning too. I thank everyone who posts for giving me the tools to trouble shoot problems, appreciate y’all so much! Y’all take care now!
Glad you found the problem. I fought ignition problems for years thinking it was my carb. Now that I'm driving the car more, I can tell that #1 and #3 wires are cracked vs it needing another 1/4 turn on the APT screw.
