choking problem

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help. I'll try and make it short and simple: V6 2.8 FI 87 Firebird. Car has been acting strange, first start of the day cold and hot weather, car starts then dies, two or three times before it catches but is getting worse, have to give it gas to make it run now. Then today after driving in very hot weather it was running fine, then out of the blue it choked out like to much gas or not enough, I didn't smell any gas odors coming from the car, just choking, pressed on gas pedal and it felt like it was flooded, no power, engine ran, didn't die, but absolutely no power, pressed on gas again started to catch and then no power (or gas) going to fuel injectors. Pulled over let it cool for a few hours, started it and it ran fine again. I also have a strange vibrating noise now instead of a smooth buzzing noise coming from the fuel pump or relay. Also checked for codes and none are stored. I know it's not easy to figure out whats wrong from my discription, but if someone has had a similar problem would love to hear from you. thanks

Hard starts (cold or hot) and no power sounds like lack of fuel --- have you changed the fuel filter? It could also be a tired fuel pump, but the filter is much easier to change and you would change it anyway in troubleshooting before you even considered the pump replacement.

yes, it does sound like fuel, do you hear any pinging or knocking from the engine compartment?...it could be as simple as timing to just a spark plug or two. eliminate all of the cheap things first, such as fuel filter, spark plugs, wires...then if it is not fixed, then it is more than likely shot injectors or foul fuel pump. best of luck.
