Connecting Rod Assembly Nuts
Connecting Rod Assembly Nuts
Hello everyone! I hope your days are going better than mine
Today I successfully stripped 3 connecting rod nuts before realizing that not only are they the epitome of pointless overengineering, but that I can't seem to find them anywhere! With that being said, does anybody have some ideas of where I can find some connecting rod nuts for a 86' 2.8l firebird? The original nuts fit best in a metric 13, 16 tooth socket.

Re: Connecting Rod Assembly Nuts
Have you found a solution? Somehow I have misplaced all of the nuts that go to the end of my connecting rods on the 2.8l. After some quick research it was made clear you cannot use regular part store nuts and need special ones made for high performance specifically. Problem is I can’t find anywhere online or in person that sells these nuts for the 2.8l firebird.the ONLY possible source I’ve found is rockauto, where you can just buy the entire connecting rods for 31 bucks each. Not trying to spend 200 dollars because I misplaced some cheap nuts..

Go to your local engine rebuilder. He will have a scrap barrel and you can take all the connecting rod nuts that you can carry.

What is a 16 tooth socket?
The nuts are indeed 13mm hex size iirc... but they are 12 point nuts.
