Summitracing informed me that the government is tryin to propose a plan to junk all 60's, 70's, and 80's sports cars. HEre is the email they sent me.
Dear Summit Racing customer,
Your hobby is in danger! Proposed U.S. government legislation, U.S.
Senate Bill S.1766, would allocate federal funds for state scrappage programs
for vehicles more than 15 years old. In the process, it could threaten the
very existence of our hobby by:
*Destroying 1960s and 70s era musclecars
*Scrapping 1980s performance vehicles like Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes
*Eliminating many non-performance vehicles which provide an invaluable parts
source
Take a stand for your rights--and your hobby--by letting your U.S. Senator
know how this bill will directly affect you. Log onto our website at
http://www.SummitRacing.com for a copy of our Legislator Letter, which you
can print, sign, and mail to your Senator. Then, go to
http://www.enjoythedrive.com/san for a complete list of legislator names and
addresses, plus additional information on U.S. Senate Bill S.1766.
Act now--your hobby may depend on it!

NO
What it is about is
BIG OIL COMPANIES & ENRON'S
TRYING TO GET FREE "CREDITS" SO
they do not have to pay big dollars to "reduce" their pollutants, from their "smoke stacks".
They get "free credits" by destroying old cars in a wrecking yard, "polluting the air"
(Don't ask how a "dead" car, in a wrecking yard, not running pollutes
. That's the lobbiest job - MORE
)
It's a back door way to make us "Pay" more in the long run and get older polluting vehicles off the street.
NOW you can B!TCH, but, alot already done has been to effectivly reduce ROAD DRIVEN POLLUTANTS.
Meaning: old cars eventually die, motors wear out.
They're just trying to get all the "already dead ones" to count, also, now.
Yes, you/we should be concerned.

dont worry....if and thats a big if..it gets passed this is what happens.....lets say joe blow is cruising in his 78 pinto..rusted,no cat..burning 2 qts of oil a day.....he could get "pulled over"and they would test his emmisons...he ahs like 90 days to comply..that would mean major tune up ect yu get the idea...
or he has the choice to"junk "the vehicle and the goverment will pay him a grand....First off it wont get voted in....not going to happen make my words....2nd..lets say it did work that way....Joe not wanting to scrap his trusty pinto would then sell it to his cousin bubba..and transfer the title..back n forth ect ect.,..Ive seen **** like this in england on a trial basis and it bombed bad..to many loopholes...I remember this being brought up before..........by the way...what a great way for summit to get everyone pumped up and say ..geez what nice guys over there at summit they really care....
