I-4 Camaro's

Hey I've got the 2.8 but was just wondering if anyone had driven a 4 cylinder Camaro, and what did it feel like? They had lower gears so were they at all peppy? I just wondered because my 2.8 can barely haul my car around, I couldn't imagine it with a 4-banger in ti!

Sounds like your 2.8 needs a tuneup or something...

The 3.73/open/drum axles were only under the 2.5's with the manual transmissions. You can also find the 3.73/open/drum under the '84 Camaro H.O. (It says 5.0 Camaro H.O. on the rear bumper).

I knew of a neighbor that had a Firebird with all the dress of a Trans Am & a 4 under the hood.
That 4 is a great engine.
Designed back in the late 50's, marketed for usage in the early 60's.
IT's called Pontiac's "Iron Duke".
It is a strong long running engine.
IT'S OVER IT'S HEAD IN THESE F BODIES!
I drove one in a Fiero for 3,000 miles.
It did great in that light weight car.
My Vega had the 2300cc Aluminum engine, 2BBl (Holley!!-factory), four speed-no GT package, HEI ignition).
Before I sold the Vega I raced two cars on Maryland freeways back in the smoggy 70's & I blew them away, as I was close to 100 in that Vega. Honest, one was a late 70's Trans Am.
Yes, really.
Say what ya want, I was there & I was impressed & surprised! It was an open freeway (495?) and late at night.
I really miss that car. Sold it as the car has high pitched squeek from the back & car had no hot weather ventilation (stagnant interior air-no AC on car)
I met the guy that bought my Vega (from used car dealer) after I sold it. He wanted to know what's wrong with this car. I told him nothing. He wanted to know how I made it so fast. I drove it to redline from day one (Like 6500 rpm, it is an overhead cam, ya know, they like revs, higher, that tip was a good suggestion from an old friend).
Pontiac also made a Super Duty & SUPERCHARGED version of that engine, back in the early 60's for drag racing. (ALL parts over the parts counter).
But we know what was the market, then.
Horsepower & BIG cubes.

Tom is right , you most likely need a tune-up b/c when I had my old 2.8 , before I got a tune-up it was SOO SLOW ..then after the tune-up I was really amazed .
