Engine ID on V6
Hey Y'all,
I bought a new EGR base gasket from the Chevy dealer to replace mine. The EGR I have uses a half-moon shaped gasket whereas the one from the pic on the dealer's computer for the '91 showed an oval shaped gasket, which I bought.
I was told by my girlfriend that the previous owner said the engine had been changed. WHere is the block #, is it obscured by some engine component? If I can read it, can anyone decipher it like I could with my smallblock to find out the year model of the engine?
Eric

a: find the chiltons manual & look in section 1, (mines in garage)
b: call dealer parts/service center. They should know/have reference material on it.

I have gotten the engine ID# A910917CDC
It is on the top front of the block behind the timing cover according to the Haynes manual, this is where the ID is.
Does anyone have a reference for this, yr model.

Ahh, I was not sure if it was the original engine or not, and due to getting the wrong EGR gasket when I was looking at what was supposed to be the breakdown of that system for the '91 3.1 MPI it made me wonder about the engine.
My fiance bought the car from a car lot, (twice, but that's a long story) but one day a guy saw her with the car and told her his brother had owned the car and that the engine had been changed or some thing.
I can tell it's been repainted at least once, that the hood used to be a purpleish color, and the nose is aftermarket (the sticker was still on the back of it) and someone cut the coils to lower it, cut the fronts too much and they have coil spring boosters in them,
probably put in after they hit the oil pan really hard near the drian plug (maybe that's what happened to the first engine)

Well, the reason I was curious about this is the '09/90 build date on the car making it a '91 model and the engine number of A910917CDC, as in the ENGINE being if the code is correct built ONE YEAR after the rest of the car, which leads me to wonder if the engine is a '92 model.
I may drop by my local engine machine shop and have him look the engine # up in his book.
