More power the the 2.8

I would like to get my car a bit faster w/o having to spend thousands of dollars on it. What are the best air filters, spark plugs and wires, and others that I can do for under.....oh, I'd say $125. I love my 2.8 for insurance reasons, but everyone wants to race the camaro and I'm tired of getting beat!!! AARRGGHHH!!!! HELP PLEAZE IM BEGGING YOU!!!!:hail:

Make that $250-$500 on price and I also have a 5-speed. Here's a pic or 2 of my engine as well.

Welcome to the board.

Hey guys you all think we need something up top that never moves that says all the upgrades. lol.

Don't worry about it, everyone on this board has asked this same questions.

Oh yeah this does not fall under you $125 budget I am just giving you all the possibilties. (well the tune-up should be right around that price) edit. Wait you changed it. 250-500 alot of these are in your access now.

You could do a Ked85 approach and install a 3.4L V-6, it swaps right in, theres an extra 25 hp, and 40 ft/lbs. Heres his swap post https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ghlight=boogie

You could install
-crowler, crane or ari cam -- Crane and crower are easy to find ARI web site http://www.engine-parts.com/GMV6/gm28stroker.html

-roller rockers

-Ported and polished heads and intake.

-Headers that Camaro_hunter_d is making

-Better exhaust (this should be the second upgrade, recommended by everyone.)

-COMPLETE TUNE-UP This should be the first thing you do. Heres TomP's guide to it https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ighlight=Major

-Forced induction Turbo, SC etc. No one has done this yet so you will be breaking new ground.

-There there are all sorts of little mods that people do. K&N filter ram air setups, TB bypass, better ignition etc. There are other mods than can be found on the homepage.

Hope this helps.

You are not going to gain speed by plugs and wires.. Look into a dynomax cat back for 139.99, a new high flow converter, 59.99, and do not over look things like Nitrous. You can take that from your V6 to a V8 and to a 4 cylinder all off one kit.

Get used to either staying out of races, or get used to getting beat. Or get ready to spend a ton of money. Even the V8 thirdgens aren't the fastest cars on the road. By buying a V6 thirdgen you set yourself up for disappointment. You're buying a car with the smallest engine GM thought they could sell. A v6 thirdgen is fun to drive around town, doesn't cost much to operate and repair, they're easy to work on, etc but they arent fast enough to put anyone in any car to shame.

Sure you can dump $125 on a cap, rotor, coil, wires, and plugs, and when its all done you might be closer to the factory HP estimate for your car, which is still a 17+ second car in the 1/4.

You'd be further ahead swallowing your pride and either forget about racing, or saving your money and start over without the handicap.

In other words, layout your plan to sell your car and pickup somethign with a V8, or hang out here where you're accepted for having a slow car that gets picked on by fellow enthusiasts.

I hate to agree, if racing is your goal you need at least 1 grand in mods.

CAM
1.52 Roller Rockers
Double Roller Chain
Port Heads
Nitrous
LABOR FOR ALL THAT

Grand Total 1G, but 15 Flat or better each run…

Or you could build a 4.3 turbo motor and swap it in like me. I am looking at roughly 550 HP/Trq. restore the rest of the car to stock and keep the V6 badges(cause hell it STILL is a V6!) but it will also be a mid-low 10 sec car...

I also plan on moding the exterior some as well...

Or you could just drop in a V8, which is exactly the same job as dropping in a 4.3, since to do either you'll need new motor mounts, a new tranny, new springs, radiator, engine management, and all accessories.

Hey......about the forced induction turbo thing....what is that?? where and how do I get it???

Oh, by the way, I don't get beat all the time, I have put my fair share of cars to sleep (specially newer stock v-6 camaros ) That pisses them off

Yes, if you want power it will cost alot more than 150!!!
Just to run a 16.268@84.330 heres how much it costed and what I did.

Hypertech Thermo Chip;166.95
Hypertech Power Stat;13.99
DynoMax CatBack;139.95
MSD Igniton Harness;27.95
K&N cone filter;33.99
MSD 6A ignition;120.99
Jet Pulleys;85.99
Belt;25.99
Install for the pulleys, exhaust and chip;120.00
All of the listed above is what it took!!And how much it costed.

Those are just the simple bolt ons, heres where it got really expensive;I havent gotten any times with this set up listed below yet.
Crane 2030 Cam;158.95
Valve Springs;54.95
Valve Spring Retainers;40.95
Timing Chain;32.95
Gaskets;104.90
Custom Chip;350.00
Headers;150.00
Intake already ported;50.00
TB and Intake Bore;285.00
Cap and Rotor;15.25
Roller Rockers;109.95
Wire Set;34.39
Cat;72.95
The install for the cam was 700 and the guy messed it up. To get it fixed an est.300, header y-pipe and install 500. All that will be good for hopefully low to mid 15's. If you want to go kind of fast get ready to spend alot more than 150 bones my friend.

I am hoping to have a turbo set up for out cars by early summer. Quite frankly I keep bidding on turbos and they get to high too fast. I do not want to spend more then 90 bucks or so on a turbo. The beauty of the headers I am making it makes putting a turbo on (with my kit) a breeze. I am tring to make it a "general" kit so that more then just one type of turbo will work on it. The bad thing is I will probly need to buy 3-4 turbo's to get the kit "just right".

AND NO THE TURBOS WILLL NOT BE INCLUDED IN MY KIT, NOR WILL AN INTERCOOLER. IT WILL HAVE THE NEW Y PIPE, AND ROUTING TUBES THAT YOU CAN ADD AN INTERCOOLER TOO HOWEVER. I have been asked to include everything in the kit but if I did it would be a $1500+ kit. Easier for you to buy the kit, then the turbo on your own(when you get the $$$) then install it. Then later you can add an intercooler. Just FYI I do plan on selling this kit in the $200 range. Because it does not include the 2 most expensive things.

Whats that *ers supposed to stand for chief? is that 8ers or f***ers? Either way its a rediculous reply. Jim and I both own V6's so we aren't exactly 8ers, and since we are all here to talk about cars, not to call each other names, to refer to anyone as a f***er is a little uncalled for.

actually it was meant as 8 as you could see I was typing caps... cause if I wanted to call you ****ers I would. its that simple. What you and Jim own/drive make not matter to me or anyone else here on the board. The subject of the post was how to get power with a 2.8 NOT A V8. Next time try to keep the replies POST ORIENTED.

PS Just for you Drew the "*" does mean ****er.
