FACT:
a speed limiter on my 92 camaro RS 3.1 5 speed is set to around 115-116mph... it dosent cut the engine off... well tonight the road was clear, so i was gonna see what it topped out at, when i hit 116 mph the computer made engine decrease rpms (as if i had let off the accelerator), it slowed down till it was about 85ish mph, then i could resume accel... well i was happy to find that my car will go much faster than 116 if i remove the speed limiter, i think it would hit 125 at 4900rpms in 5th
i was talking to my dad about his 87 camaro, and he had an automatic with a 3.77 posi rear. he said he used to do 2500rpms at 60 mph... i do the close to the same with my 5 speed manual with 3.42 mines 3000rpm at 60mph
all you ram air people, i bet there is allot to gain especialy if you are going 70mph... it would be a big difference. you have a decent setup like the dual snorkel and sheet metal,

Just curious, but what gear are you in when doing 3000 rpms at 60mph? As far as I know I have the original gearing,( whatever that is) and at 3000 I'm at 100mph. The slowest I can drive in 4th (auto) is 45mph at about 1300 rpms. Once I change the timing chain, rebuild entire ignition system, fix exhaust etc, etc, I'll run it up to 120mph and see what rpms I'm at.
4th gear... i posted this mainly on the speedlimiter info... cuz i remember reading that it was set to 110, some said they went 119 without hitting the speed limiter... i had allot of rpm left over when i was going 110ish... i remember reading that the speed limiter would kill the engine and make you drift to a slower speed.
i dont know , mabie i misunderstood what they meant by it, but now i personaly know...
first time i hit the limiter, i was like ohh **** i breoke my car! (engine stops accelerating and slows down) then i realize it was a limiter, i tried it again, with same results...
so anyway, i want to know what exactle will bypass the speed limiter? i somehow thought the ECM chip would do it , but obviously my jet chip didnt do it...

My car likes to cry when it hits 95 MPH... now that they upped the speed limit on the Parkway.. it's anything goes when it's not stopped up with traffic... this civic, eclipse and something else and me were all cruisin at about 80-90 Last Sunday... it was actually cool as hell... I know I hit 95-100 at some points... my car just kinda say "*** help me.. I'm falling apart..."
i'll never do that again without an Al driveshaft... those vibes from my current steel one don't feel too good....

I never really thought about the driveshaft. What do you mean by "Al" driveshaft anyway. Over here I'll be cruising at about 100 and just never put any thought into that what with all the other problems I've got (I'm a hypercondriack, hypocondriack, whatever), so to me there's alway something wrong with my car.

cuz i remember when i checked my RPMs on the scan tool at school, i said to myself thats where 70 MPH should be at
i need to go outside tommorow after work and reset my tach so it is correct

the counter-weights probably fell off
could be bad u-joints too

coolrimsatleast, and AL driveshaft stands for aluminum driveshaft. I agree with 1991tealRSt-topGuy, it either the weights, or the u-joints.
It's true there is plenty of room left on the tach in 4th gear, but if you remove the limiter, your top speed won't increase by a whole lot. When the limiter is defeated, your car's top speed becomes drag-limited. The ablility of your engine to overcome the air resistance of your car becomes the determining factor. Since drag is a square function (as in the frontal area of the vehicle), to double your top speed, you must QUADRUPLE your engine's output. It helps that F-bodies are inherently slippery by design. The governor effect, by the way, is acheived by cutting off fuel to the injectors sequentially. It does slow you down quite a bit, so removing the limiter can help in that repect, because you wont slow down drastically and have to build up that speed that you lost again.
