And the MAF is WHERE?

I checked out my friend's 86' 2.8..and noticed on his intake tube, he had this big old MAF right in the middle....restrictive as hell and plainly labeled. Now..I have a 91 3.1 liter, and for the life of me, I cannot find my damned MAF sensor! Where is the sucker? Only sensor I can see in my whole intake assembly is the IAT.. There is the little tube that goes from the air tube, right by the throttle body opening, into the passenger's side valve cover area.. But he has that too, behind his MAF. So..where is it? Thanks guys.

When GM upped the V6 engine size to 3.1l they ditched the MAF Sensor in favor of a MAT Sensor.... Your car doesn't need a MAF as it has a MAT.

They say that the MAF does a better job at measuring air intake but is often flaky, the MAT is much more reliable

interesting, GM went from MAF to speed density fi, while f*rd went from speed density to MAF fi.

OOps my mistake its a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. I believe its bolted to your fire wall. If i'm not mistaken there is a vaccum hose & a wiring harness connected to it

Ok...gotcha. Never heard a word about the MAP in my life...so..I'm guessing it's nothing that can be tweaked with for performance or whatever else. And thanks Wayne.. The trick is not to see it too up-close. Done with hi-temp ceramic spray paint..lol.. You can see the stop-line. I didn't remove anything. I had to put towels all around the plenum and around tubing and everything...talk about a pain in the ***. I was in a hurry..could've done better.

Anyone have a photo of the MAP? Or a picture that shows it clearly? Just so I can know where the sucker is. You know how these computer cars are...crap everywhere, no idea what half of it does but your car will explode if you unplug something. Lol. BTW..I unplugged my IAT before...just to see.. Car idled fine, ran fine. But I hit the gas pedal..at that point, I pulled the car over and laughed my *** off. I got to 30 mph in about 10 seconds...
-----------------
BTW...no blue wires anymore. They were pieces of sh*t. Underconducted BIG TIME. Had to replace them.. Couldn't find any other blue ones, so I had to go with classic boring black. Still bought the 7mm's...I'm not upgrading the car whatsoever, so, no need for the extra beefiness.

my 85 has both MAF & MAP sensors. MAF by the air filter (or where air filter used to be), & MAP by the coil.

Open hood. Look at back of manifold on passanger side. See that small vacuum line coming out of the middle back part? follow that hose the MAP sensor mounted right in front of you.

in that pic, look at the green thing. the MAP sensor is on the left hand(drivers) side of that mounted to the firewall.
