Distributor coil....

How do you get off your distributor coil? I have been working at this for a while and it looks like it's connected at two bolts. These two bolts hold the bracket which holds the coil. Is there any easy way or any tips any of you guys can give me? Please help!!!

What do you mean by deep socket? Also, what does the egr look like? Is it that ufo thing or the thing with a bunch of electrical connections in it, ( closer to the coil) ? Do I need to remove either? Thank you ked85! Eric

sorry Kinda screwed up.
You're making me recall when I rebuilt/swapped engines over a year ago.
Two bolts.
15mm
Bolted to exhaust manifold area.
Need an extension & short socket.
I recalled needing deep 8mm socket for some valve cover work.

Analogy
Sockets
Fingernail=socket
Deep socket= Fingernail to knuckle.
Make sense?

To remove the coil, drill out the rivets holding it into bracket.
GO get new drill bit, make it easier.
Many of us relocate it (coil).
Wish I had rest of my digi camera stuff.
I'd send ya pic.

Are you replacing the coil? I got the Blaster GM coil and took the old one out using a tiny screwdriver and a chisel to spread the metal and bust the rivets. The new one came with nuts+bolts and the small brackets also.

Yeah, I am replacing it. Do you think I should just bust that dumb bracket? Sounds good to me, my new coil came with a bracket with nuts and bolts too! Thank you! Eric

Hold on there pardner!
Meaning, if ya destroy the bracket, you MAY NOT be able to reattach the coil, there.
Better decide where it goes, then "destroy the coil".
Me,
I decided my coil would be else where.
Then hooked up coil, got car running, removed/hacked offending bracket.
IN THAT ORDER, just in case.
Destroy/modify/rebuild your bracket outta the car.

So first, take off the two 15 mm bolts, take out the bracket, tinker with it and make sure it fits, then put it back in right?

When I busted the rivets, the brackets bend easily so I pushed the coil over sideways and chiseled the bottom 2 rivets. The coil wasn't damaged at all and the original brackets can be rebent, but the new one comes with the brackets, nuts and bolts anyway.

Hardest part was getting those tiny nuts started on the bottom half.

It's time consuming, but easy... open ended wrench and a small socket... unbolt the coil (there are 4 bolts, not 2... the bottom two are the hard ones...) then installation is the reverse of removal...

I noticed a smoother idle and a little better top end... thats it... I have the GM Blaster coil...
