motor question
ok i was at the junkyard and me and this guy started talking about my car and he was like hey man you should drop a 4.3 i repeat 4.3 in it and he said that it will blot right up to my 700r4 and my comp, and everything else cept like my exhaust, and i have a friend who has a 4.3 that had a rod knocking and i could get that a rebuild it for cheap but i just wanted to verify it with you guys. so will it work
The guy's full of SH*T.
A 4.3 is a very good platform seeing as how everything that will bolt up to a 350 will also bolt up to the 4.3 (obviously not heads and stuff though) but it's a 90 degree engine. Our cars have 60 degree engines. Why do you car? Well, the transmission's bolt pattern is based on this, meaning, No, you cannot bolt your transmission up to a 4.3. Your computer wouldn't work either. You would need some serious tuning work. It is a very interesting project, and I believe Ede (mod General Tech) has a project like that in the works, but unless you're doing it for the pure fun and shock factor (nobody likes getting beat by a 6) then you might as well drop a 305, 327, 350, or a 383 in it. They all require just about the same amount of work.
