19" anyone?

anyone running 19" wheels, and done it correctly? ive seen some 20's on thirdgens and let me say they didnt sit right and werent my taste

im debating heavily between 18's or 19's, 20's are just too much IMO. i dont want things to look out of place with the 19's but i also plan to get a wheel with a 2" or larger dish.

there are a lot of 18's running around but not many with 19's done correctly...

my car is basically black and white on the outside and i am thinking about painting the spokes gloss black instead of the gunmetal

Good choice. The Sportmax 962 are a beautiful rim. I plan on getting a set as soon as I can afford them. Remember however, that these do not come in 19's; only up to 18, and you will need spacers.

I have always thought that eighteens were the biggest wheel that would look right.
That said...I was in my garage watching "Rides" the other night, the one featuring Joe Rogan's Barracuda.
With enough insanely expensive bodywork, just what would be the right size for an F-Body?
He was running 22's?, and with the mods and ride height the wheels looked just right on that car.
If only Chip Foose would do my car...
Kind of ironic, considering my first name is Boyd.

Jeff (Kandied) was running 19's for a bit, looked great. I remember another member was running 19's back in the day but havent seen him around for a while. What do you mean by doing it right? Relating to backspacing/offset or width sizes, or tire choice? All of the above?

Is he no longer running them anymore? Last time I checked he still had them. Anyways you can make those 19's look great so long as you choose tires wisely along with a nice low stance to complement the low profile tire you'd have.

abubaca thanks for that pic!!! that makes me want them that much more.

CrazyHawaiian when im talking about doing it right i mean all of the above. stance is IMO the most important with 19's and a 30 or 35 series tire. but backspacing & offset play a huge part as well.
does anyone happen to have a pic of Jeff's car when he had them? i know one person on the boards with the LS1, N20 and huge wing on his teal camaro had chrome 19's but they didnt look right to me.

but i need some help everyone, there seems to be no one that can answer these q's...if im going to do a new set of wheels im doing it RIGHT this time.

1. the rims are only 9.5" wide, how wide of a tire can i fit on them?

2. i have 1 1/4" spacers now for my rims (the sportmax have a +35mm offset) will i need new spacers?

and most importantly should i paint the spokes gloss black? heres the car they are going on, see why i want new wheels???

you aren't searching much then i must say... you should have had an answer before you even posted.

stance is important and it all depends on the height and tire location as well as choice. i chose to fit mine in the exact factory location, it only looks right with a 2" or more drop though.

i've recently changed my tires from a 285/35/19 bfg kdw2 rear to a 295/30/19 ps2 and it's a world of difference in looks. 1" lower in height makes a huge improvement.

Re: 19" anyone?

sorry to bring this back from the dead but i just bought 19" HP lightnings http://www.hpracing.com/product.phtml?p=61 and am hoping i bought the right tire size along with them. I bought 275/30/19 So by what Jeff was saying that would be the proper size right?

Looking at your link, they are listed as only 7"& 7.5" wide. I hope yours are wider. Without KNOWING the width, we can't really tell you much. If are that narrow....

Stock was a 8" wheel with a 245 so.....On a wheel that narrow (and why go narrower than stock? ) I wouldn't put anything wider than 225 MAX. More like a 205/215 wouldbe a good fit.

I'd say you wasted your $ on rims too narrow for our cars AN wasted $ on tires too wide for those rims.

Re: 19" anyone?

I agree if the wheels are not wider you are pushing the safety of the combo but it does look like you are within spec for the overall diameter. I don't even know if anyone would/could mount a 275 on a 7.5" wide rim.

This may help someone

the link was for visual referance only. My rims are 19X9.5, my bad for not adding in the rim size in my post.

Re: 19" anyone?

Sweet! I pretty much had to take a good guess on tire size when i made my deal so im glad i got it right. The car will have the 19's front and back, hopefully i don't regret going with the larger rims, i had planed originally to go with 18's

The car is already lowered 1.6 in front and 1.5 in the back, i may decide to lower it more depending how the wheels look, i will post pictures for sure!! I haven't seen many people on here with 19's so hopefully this will help people out.

Re: 19" anyone?

19 inch rears... 295/30 tire. but i wish it was more like a 305/30 or a 295/35 just to better match the front.

front is 18 inch and 255/40. I should have got the 245/40's and 305/30 rear and it would have similar side walls. I really wish i could have 19's in the front as well but they dont make 19x9 or so in this wheel in this color

Re: 19" anyone?

91RS, yeah I want to see how the 19's fit up front, thought of that a couple months ago. There's a few of us here with C6's 19" 18" staggered but don't think I've seen 19's up front. It'll all depend on your backspacing and tire size, you may have to roll fender lips and maybe remove front inner liner. Should look pretty cool though. Later.

Re: 19" anyone?

the company im ordering the rims through say they had a customer with the same rims and all on his IROC and other then a slight tire rub up front when he cuts the wheel hard he has no issues. It will be interesting to see but i think it will work. I should have the rims by the end of next week so ill mount them up and post pics right away.

Re: 19" anyone?

as long as the tire is similar size to stock and its spaced out right, you shouldnt have a problem I dont hit anything with my 18x8.5 up front since its a 255 tire almost like stock. I have it spaced right too
