What Tires do You like

Just got 87 GTA with 36K on it car has original tires and to say the least they are not in fabulous shape. Looking for preferences from you guys. This car will be a strictly summer car only so I don't care about snow and winter weather traction. I see lots of people have reviewed the Fuzion ZRi on Tirerack with 3rd and 4th gen fbody's and they all seem to think it is a great tire. I just wondering since almost all the other tire seem to run 100 or more and it is only 85. If it is a you get what you pay for situation. Thanks for your help

tires

I have an 85 Iroc, tpi. I just purchased the Goodyear Eagle GT tires, I like them, and they are great handling, and a V-rated tires. They are a summer/winter (all season tire). I only drive the car in the summer though, store it in the winter. I got them from The Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels. I had the guy that was doing my inspection, at the garage, install them. The tires originally were Goodyear Gatorback tires from 85 when the car was new. I don't think they make them anymore. I also have a 99 Monte Carlo z34, it has the Goodyear ASSURANCE tires on it. I think they are the BEST tire for a car. That is "MY" opinion. They are an all season tire. The treading, traction, and handling for these tires are excellent!

oh ur running some nice size tires huh? I'm probably gunna be running 245's on all 4 of my tires, im not sure if u are but if u are how does it ride? I heard that 245's make for good handling and more traction in the front. But im not sure about what it will do on my 15's

I know a lot of F-Body people running Kumos, myself included. Either the 711 or the 712. Both seem to be doing real well and are fairly inexpensive.

Just replaced the Goodyear Eagle GT's on my 91 RS and on my 96Z28. They caused both car's to wander more than I cared for. The RS now wears a set of Mastercraft Avenger HP's, huge improvement in ride and tracking. Will purchase the same for my 87IROC very shortly. My 96Z28 now wears a set of Kumho 712 Supera's, nice ride after they warm up after sitting longer than a week. Probably wont buy Kumho's again. Also, I did put a set of Goodyear Fortera's on my Suburban (who cares?) and I do like those... Pick what appeals to you and your pocket book then rate them after a few months and miles.

I am running these https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...e1=yes&place=3

I got them on sales for $69ea, at that price I decided they were worth trying out, if I didnt like them I could burn them off and not feel guilty

Well I actualy like them, I pulled off a high 12 second run with them on it. Them cheapy's were only .3 off my best time with my Mickey Thompson slicks My old spinning Potanza's had a hard time letting me run a high 13 So they may not be the best out there but for the bang for the buck tire I sure give them

no i didnt get fired and why in the hell should that have anything to do with it ya i diss on to big brands but im also very picky about tires i know what works and what doesnt he ask for opinions and i gave him my nobody has to like it put whatever you want on your car doesnt make a difference to me. i worked at goodyear for a year and i couldnt believe the come backs that we have the whole time i work there atleast 3or 4 times a week i had to rebalance the tires or theyt came back seperated even on the hi-performance tires i had a set of kumho i had to take them off because i had a hard time stopping on wet pavement and i have factory brakes which the problem was they would lock up. just like i said your car do what you want thanks Daniel

I bought new tires last winter and did a review but no one seemed to care as there were no responses

I've since had these tires for roughly 7-8 month's now and even though I drive this car like it was stolen, the tire's still look as if they've never been used.

The tread life on these things are ridiculous.... best tread life of any tires I've ever owned and I've tried our more than 10 brands and models in as many years. My opinion of these tires remains the same today, as when I first bought them. I love 'em.

Origionally,I had been looking into Goodyear's Eagle F1 GS-D3, BFGoodrich CompTAs' and a new company (new to me anyways ) Yokohama's Avid V4' series.

After a lot of research I ended up going with a set of the Yokohama Avid V4's front and back. (the picture only shows 1 pair because I bought the second pair the following week.)

I've been running them for about 8 month's now.

The first thing I noticed after taking the car out for its first test drive was the amazing amount of grip they offered through the turns. I found myself taking corners at much higher speeds than before for example - merging onto the off ramp on the 401. I was able to corner at much higher speeds with the Yokohama's then the previous BFGoodRich tires I had before, without them showing any kind of protest (squeeling).

Not only did the car stick a lot better around the corners but off the line there was also a noticible improvment in traction. Don't get me wrong, they're not MT/ET streets or anything but for an all season performance tire, I was pretty impressed.

After about 45 min on the freeway, the second thing I noticed was how QUITE and smooth the ride was. There was a definete decrease in road noise and the car really did feel a lot smoother. I remember glancing down at the speedo at one point and seeing that I'd hit 110mph but I'd never know it unless I had looked down at the speedo. The car was just so smooth and quite.

Needless to say, I was very impressed with these tires' dry wheather performance but how well would they fair in wet wheather conditions? I found that out the next day.

It was raining really bad all throughout the day. When I left for work in the morning I was pretty nervous at how these ties would react.

Maybe it was because I was used to the horrible handeling of my worn-out BF goodrich tires I had before. Or maybe it was because I was accustomed to the aweful handeling in-the-rain MT/Streets I run on my Firebird but for whatever reason I've never liked driving in the rain.

The next day, all that changed as I found myself for the first time, driving around in the rain without any fear of loosing control. These Yokohama's offered grip just as impressive in the rain as they did in the dry. I still cant believe how good they handle in the rain. It's feels like a whole other car now.

Lastly, the snow. Most of you probably don't care about this area of performance as you probably don't drive your Fbody in the winter but I'll post my experience for those that do. They're not purpose-built snow tires by any stretch of the imagination but they've been good enough to get me to/from work without ever getting stuck once. Last week we had a sudden snow-storm and with no snow machines or salt trucks anywhere in sight, a lot of people on my street found themselves getting stuck before even getting out of their own drivways.

I on the other hand, had no trouble at all. I still have to be very carefull in the snow, obviously, as these car's aren't exacly ment for snowy conditions and if I give the car anthing more than 1/4 throtle I can still swing out the back end REAL easily, but they do provide enough traction for me to move around and I'm happy enough with that !

All in all, I give these tires a 9.5 out of 10. Very impressive and I'd reccoment them to anyone looking for a high performance all season tire.

Here's a link to some reviews of this tire at tirerack. This website played a big role in my determining which tire to get.

This is the first set of tires i've been happy with so far. Falken Ziex ZE-512 Tire Details - Discount Tire Co.
I never hear anyone talk about Falken tires, but they're are wonderful in the rain and are very quiet. And they're Z-rated. I think they're a very soft compound tire as the tread warranty is only 30k miles. but i've had them 9k miles now and they still have the nipples on them so they seem to be very highly underrated.

Running the Khumo 711's on my GTA and the ride is awesome, no road noise and good wet weather traction. It takes over 1/4 throttle even with the LT1 to break them loose when it's wet. I ran the Ziex 512's on my Mustang and were pure junk, they wore out really fast and really sucked in the rain.

Skip the 711/712 and get the newer ECSTA AST. Stiffer sidewall and seem to have more traction.

I love them in all conditions.

I generally try and stay out of topics like this but I will give my two cents today. I run goodyear eagle GT II's with great sucess. I have a smooth ride and they wear fairly well. Quite simply though if you are looking for a handling tire these are NOT it. They make an excellent street tire for normal driving conditions. These and most of goodyears lineup generally aren't made to handle on a dime. Quite frankly I have a set of m/t et streets and skinnies for when I want to mess around, but even then in a straight line. But to say goodyear is a inferior product based on what I have read by some of you is ridiculous. When you ask more of a product than what it was designed for then yes it will let you down. Pony up and get some decent performance/handling designed tires and be happy. You get what you pay for and what it was designed for.

i recently purchased a set of bfg g-force sports, 245-50-16's up front and 255-50-16's out back. all i can say is I love them. the tread pattern looks great and performs as well as it looks. with my old firehawks i had a boatload of under steer and now all i have to worry about is oversteer due to too much throttle. they are excellent in the rain and i havent had them long, maybe about a month, but they still look and perform like theyre brand new. i would definetly recomend them to anybody.

I've got KUMHO ECSTA Supra 712's on my '90 IROC-Z and my '97 SS. I really like the tires and find them very predictable. Before using the 712's I mainly used BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW's.

Kuhmo 712's here too - 245/40/18 up front and 275/35/18 out back. Can't complain at all. Car handles like it's on rails with them. Actually scared JeremyNYR from these boards while he was riding w/me taking an off ramp at over double the posted speed. They hook well in dry pavement, especially when warm. Wet - I've only got stuck out once in rain, can't really comment on the wet traction. I recommend tire rack for your purchase. 2 day delivery, guy saw I was buying them, and called to warn me they wouldnt work well in snow (i live in buffalo ny). Great service, decent price.

Of course, my Mustang has BFG Comp T/A ZR's on it and they actually work excellent as well in dry and wet weather and the handling is really good also.

I have BF Goodrich on my 89 RS, and my traction has been awful, especially in the rain, but there was one tire (the back passenger tire) that was bad, it had a leak in it, so I put Fix A Flat in it (I am broke as hell and can't afford a new tire), so that could be where the horrible traction came from. Now, someone has slashed all ut one of my tires, so I have to get new ones. They left me a good BF Goodrich, so I am replacing the other three with BFG. Hopefully there will be an imporvement without that other, no-name itre on there.

I have kumho ecsta 711's in 245/45/17 on my SLP zr1s and i absolutely love them. great handling tires, ride quiet, great wet traction too. I wish they came in something wider in a 45/17 profile, but oh well. Great budget performance tire, and has excellent marks over on tirerack for the price.

my theory is...just my personal prefrence is if you don't burnout in your car that much and like to just cruise then I would spend the money on some nice tires....ie the yoko's....toyo makes a nice tire too but a very soft compound so if your burnout hapy they don't last at all. If your one like me and find your self to be burnout happy at time like myself would perfer the kuhmos...price is right for that kind of driving style

i run the firehawk sp50's right now which i beleive are discountinued

B.F. Goodrich G-Force Sports! I bought a set back in December and have been very impressed with the traction and relative quiet. I called around a bunch of tire stores in the area and got the price down from $135/each down to less than $90. It pays to shop around.

Good call I don't like them either. Too soft and wear out quickly. Had a set on my '98 S10 and was replacing them about every 22k mi.
Now switching gears I have a set of Goodyear Eagle GT+4's raised black letter tires on my '84 H.O. car. Size 215/65R15. I did this to have the stock appearance. Tires have about 8K miles on them and so far so good. I only drive the car about 1K mi. a year though!

Fuzion is Firestone/Bridgestone's "off-brand," and it's the same tire as the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval. But being sold without the Firestone name on it, it's less money. So if that's the tire you want to try, and if you trust Firestone/Bridgestone, then you'll prolly feel confident with the tire. I've never used it, but like you said, many people have given it great reviews, and it's got a nice price. It seems like a good choice.

The best stock size for your 15s would be 235/60s. You prolly won't be disappointed with that.

This one, I didn't care for. It was too soft for me, and it wore out quickly.

Much too soft for my taste. I had no feel for the road and no confidence going into turns. For a luxury car, I'm sure they're great, though.

My only complaint about Goodyear tires is the price. They're just TOO expensive. But for performance, I've always had good results with them.

I think that about covers them.

I agree with 87CIZ: I have the Falken Ziex-512 on my car. GREAT in the rain, even better on dry pavement. I don't drive in the winter, so I dont know about snow traction.

A great tire for a good price. discount tire direct.

I have had the Kumho Supra 712's(discountinued for the new SPT just selling whats left)and I hated them! Crap in my eyes and still are. Wet was the worst I had seen. the 711 is a good and cheap tire thats that. The Fuzion ZRi's are a tuner company made up by Bridgestone/Firestone to hit the import crowd and well...its working well. The tire is pretty damn good for the price. Not the cheapest not the most either. The Mastercraft HP is a damn good tire to. Its wear is very good, but that can be said because it is a H speed rated tire. The Yoko Avid V4s is an awsome tire. I have had this tire before as well on my Iroc. It handles great and the wet traction is still there. I am currently running Yokohama ES100's on both my Roc and T/A and I do like them a lot. They are now wearing down and the traction is not as good as it used to be oh well. I am actually going to try out the new SPT's from Kumho and see how they act...those or the ASX's. I just put a set of SPT's on my buddies 02 Z and so far he really likes them. A huge improvement over the 712's.
In my opinion for a 245/50R16 get the Yoko Avid V4s..you will not be dissapointed at all. Kick butt tire with a great treadweat rating and I have seen them get some great mileage if not abused.

I just replaced my Falken Ziex 451s with a set of BF Goodrich G-Force Sports. I can't comment on the BFG's yet because they've only been on the car for a couple days, and I also had an alignment done, and they took out some of the toe, so I'm still getting used to the slower turn-in on corners.

Anyway, the Falkens stuck to the road like glue. I had exceptional straight line and cornering traction. Unfortunately, I got very uneven tire wear, and didn't even get a full year out of them. After about 7k or 8k miles, the right rear was bald in the center and like-new on the edges dispite only having 25lbs of air in it. The other 3 tires were like-new in the center and worn on the edges.

Since my alignment wasn't too far off other than perhaps a bit too much toe in, I'm crediting the lousy wear to the tires. My previous set of tires managed to last for 22k miles and wore beautifully. Hopefully the BFGs will too. If not, I might have to switch to a set of rock-hard all seasons. I can't afford to put tires on the car twice a year!

KDW 275/40/17s work pretty good for me.

I have a set of Dunlop GT Qualifiers on my '83 and I'm starting to like them. I've had them on the car since this past spring and they haven't worn that bad. I paid $85 a piece for them (235/60r/15 front, 245 60r/15 rear) Once the tires get warmed up, they stick pretty good as well.

Update on my BFG G-force sports. They're obviously too new for milage feedback, but in terms of their ride quality and grip, I'm happy with them. They seem to ride softer than the Falkens, but haven't given up anything in the corners, though I still haven't pushed them real hard yet. At moderate speeds the cornering feels as stable as the Falkens. straight line grip feels as good or perhaps a bit better.

For an exellent, EXELLENT, handling tire, wet or dry, I have found nothing better than falcons for the price. They are not a high mileage tire. They will wear out quicker than Goodyears.(Or whatever high milage slip and slide tire you have) But they are priced very reasonable, and if you do any Autocross, as I do, or are just looking for a tire that sticks like glue, I highly recommend them.

Once again

I don't think I will ever change to a different type of tire for a daily driven vehicle that gets great performance for the price.

I have yet to find any tire that has better bang for the buck than Kumho! I personally am running the SPTs. 285/40-17 rear and 275/40-17 front.

sorry to revive this thing but I am running fuzions on my 4th gen bird for well over a year and love them. wear is great and traction and cornering are top notch. In fact today I'm getting a set put on the GTA. We'll see how they do with more weight and torque on em
