Back Road Handling
I believe my fuel pump just went in my camaro and I am going to change it soon but while I do that I might as well do coil springs, shocks, etc. I wanted to know what to get exactly to make it handle and not break loose. I drive really fast on back roads and I want the car to handle like an AWD car even though it won't be as good. I wanted to know what exactly to get... I don't want to hit a painted line or something stupid going like 110 on back roads and crash
~Thanks in advance

Sell it and buy a awd car before you crash it. besides one day HP will be sitting out there waiting to get you going 110 on public roads. i bet they be looking forword to give you a huge ticket too or impound your car. slow it down nothing in lifes worth going that fast even on back roads

Re: Back Road Handling
I never asked any of that. I do not care, I only do it at night so the worst that will happen is I will hit a deer or lose control and die. End of story I don't do it around other civilians, I make sure the road is clear and that I know the road. I just want to know what I need to make the car handle really good and stick to the road like adhesive...

Re: Back Road Handling
If you plan to go 110 on back roads, I suggest a cage for the car... and get ready to possibly pay some serious tickets, kill the car, yourself, or other people.
But, if you are planning to make the car handle better, you need to replace the front and rear suspension components at the same time. There's plently of information on this site about improving handling, just search a little. If you have some specific questions, I'll be happy to answer, but the 'make the car handle better' thread has been beat to death lol

Re: Back Road Handling
What size rollcage do you think is efficient? I searched for awhile, thats why I made a thread. I will search again. I don't want to pay an extremely large amount for a complete suspension upgrade thats why im trying to find out where to buy it and what exactly to get.
Im 19 and have been driving since I was 15 and not dead yet.. I live in more of a rural area so I am very careful. The only thing that I have to fear is deer... I hate deer.

Re: Back Road Handling
There is a thread I wrote that'll be helpfull. Making an f-body handle is the title I think. It's on here somewhere. I've been in tons of threads like this one, so you can search under my username. I've thought about a roll cage for my car, and since it's a daily driver, I'm not doing it. But If I did, I'd do a 6 or 8 point cage at least. More between you and massive owies if anything goes wrong. I used to drive around on back roads and mountain roads alot when I was younger. It is alot of fun and it's also very dangerous (as is any high speed driving).
I'd suggest some good tires and shocks to start you off with, but that's after going over the car and replacing anything that's worn out from all the years of use. No sense in upgrading when things on the car are worn out lol.

Re: Back Road Handling
Yes I agree, I gotta figure out what shocks/struts/springs/LCA's/sway bars/etc. I want to do a complete overhaul since I have to do my fuel pump anyway. At least thats what I am pretty sure it is. It needs ether to start and it will shut off after it warms up. I have went through a lot of things but I figure screw it and just do it. I don't want to pay a lot but my life is at risk here.. I love the adrenaline rush of going sideways at 30mph +

If you plan to replace stock springs with performance aftermarket ones, new they pretty much only come in a complete set. So if you just want rear ones you will have to find someone selling just the rears.
As for shocks I like bilsteins the most. KYB's are great for the money.
Go to poly mounts and links for the sway bar for more stability and if you have the smaller 17mm or 19mm sway bar you can upgrade the larger 21mm or 24mm for some better rear end traction.

Re: Back Road Handling
I was figuring aftermarket front and rear sway bars.. Im not sure what size it is but my guess is stock for a 92 rs. The car was beautiful when I got it but some idiot clipped my front end when I was in a driveway.. The whole car was stock but not anymore.

Re: Back Road Handling
someone correct me if I'm wrong....i'm very tired tonight. if you upgrade (change to bigger) the rear sway bar and not the front, you'll make the car very loose (rear end want to jump out). you won't get better traction around a corner. Again, they need to be done as a pair, generally speaking.

Re: Back Road Handling
The RS should have a 19mm, measuring it would be the only way to know for sure.

The later Z28 non 1LE cars came with either 34/21 or 34/24. The RS should have a 32/19 set up, so I don't see going to a 32/21 setup to cause traction loss. I am not a sway bar expert though so someone feel free to correct me.
If you have your bias off yes you can lose rear traction during hard turns. For purpose of going in a straight line a larger rear sway bar helps keep the axle straight and plant the tires.

Re: Back Road Handling
Aftermarket bars are generally more expensive than what what you can get with a set of stock bars. The Strano rear bar would probably be a good buy since it's hollow and lighter but that's about it.
The RS you have might have F41, and the it'll come with 34/21 like mine had. It's probably not though. Your best bet would to buy a couple of front bars (34, 36, and your stock) and several rears (19, 21, 23, 24) to fine tune the car to your like/style.
