Wheel Spacer Help - Stock GTA Rims
Hi all, I need some advice. Here's the issue: I have a 1986 Camaro Contempo Cantara, basically a Camaro with a GTA type hatch and a wide body kit with fender flares. I just installed a nice set of 16" black GTA wheels on the car with stock tires. Because of the wide fender flares, the rear wheels are tucked in too far. I tried swapping the rear to the front and front to the rear, but there are clearance issues up front with the control arms when I put the rear wheels up there. You could feel and hear the contact, although it was slight.
What should I do? Should I add spacers to the stock rear wheels to pull them out a bit or put the rears back on the fronts and add spacers there to eliminate the rub, or what else? And if I do go with spacers, what would be safe and smart. The standard rear wheels tuck in way too far (about an inch) but that's too much I think for a spacer back there. I guess I'd only need about a 3 to 5mm spacer up front if I moved the rears to the fronts and fronts to the rear.
Has anyone had similar issues and can offer advice? I know some folk run all fronts on the car, but I can't go that route at this time. The wheels were just redone and look great. Thanks and much appreciated.

Re: Wheel Spacer Help - Stock GTA Rims
have you considered selling your rear rims and picking up another pair of front offset rims to put in the back? Spacers will only buy you a small amount of clearance... if you want to keep your rear rims in the back you'd have to go with wheel adapters to push them out noticably. You MIGHT be able to get the clearance you need running the rear offset rims in the front with a spacer. If you can do it, I'd suggest buying 2 more front offset rims rather than messing with spacers or adapters.

Thanks Jeremy. I just bought these wheels and they were just redone, so finding another nice set of just fronts would be costly. I know that there are 1.25" spacers/adapters that I could just put on the rear which would probably be just right, or as you said, switch the wheels and use plate spacers.
Anyone else have any advice? Will adapters be a bad thing on the rear?
