The PO of my 92 rattle canned some sport drag type centerlines black then tried to polish the lip by sanding it. Looks like ****. I've had 2 neck surgeries and wrist surgery so I haven't been able to do anything with them.
Anyone wanna trade for ANY other 15" let me know. Would be helpful if you lived close, it's my daily driver and I can't have it down more than a few hours to have my tires mounted and balanced. ( 2 new rear tires)
Even open to 16" if the tires will get me thru the winter here in the Boston area..
I might just hit up a wrecking yard and get some to play with, and melt the rattle canned down to refill brass to go shooting. ( should go shooting imports lol)
The gold lace rims would look decent on an antique white car if you had all gold badging.
Interesting stuff! It says "Car Art is a fast drying temporary paint that won't wash off in the rain,....." which would make it kinda funny if it did. To have it just washing off, running off driving down the road in the rain. The looks on the faces of the people in the cars around you!

Yeah.
The reason I am thinking about it is that my car doesnt get washed much (beauty queen) and I would cover the wheels with plastic when I did if I got this done. I have the original gold wheels and I want to try crosslace blacks on it but too cheap to buy extra rims (3rd set then) and dont want to damage the original golds... I wonder if you can get it in gloss??? I wish...
it would be worth the 10-20$ just to check it out.

You got a pic of the wheels? I might be interested in trading.
I hope you only plasti-dip'd them. They don't look bad like that, prefer with the polished lip you had. Lets see some whole car pictures!! Noticed you did your Z28 emblem as well.
Agreed... but that style of wheel just looks much better in black than any stock wheel does. it has enough variation and dramatic lines on it that even if you just carpet bombed it in hammered rustoleum they'd still look good. Love me some ROH wheels!
The guy that has the maroon Camaro with the black 15 inch wheels and cowl hood, your car has the perfect look to make that work. Looks VERY nice.
But those 82-92 15 inch wheels also have very dramatic lines and defined spokes to them. IROCs are, in general, the better looking wheel, but they have a lot more fine details to them so when you spray bomb them, they just dont look that great. You lose some of the flair they have. And 91-92 16 inch wheels are so generic and boring that they need all the definition and contrast they can get, plus they have that awful machined finish to them which further ruins 99 percent of paint applications to them.
The problem with a lot of black wheels... They end up looking like wheels that have lost their hubcaps or ugly factory wheels some kid tried to refurbish. It's kinda like those car bra's you see. Some people think they look good and that's fine, but I immediately think "Oh the front end was all screwed up so they put a black bag over it". To me stripping, sanding, polishing and/or re-clearcoating is "doing it right" and just painting them black is the lazy way to do it. That's not necessarily always the case, I know that, but I think that's the "beef" with black wheels.
They are generally done because someone was too lazy to properly restore a wheel, so whenever someone does it for stylistic reasons, unless it REALLY pops (either in the context of the car it's on, or in the shape/design of the wheel itself), it has that sort of stigma to it.
To imissmy86TA, your wheels, being coated, look far more professional than all but the absolute best painted wheels, so none of those critiques are relevant to you and your car. The main problem I have with your wheels is I hate those wheels to begin with. The black takes away from their already limited stylistic definition and makes them look a lot more like steelies that have lost their hubcaps. But in your case I wouldnt say they look cheap just because your car doesn't look cheap. Your very, very nice car make those wheels look good. If your car was in the condition of the average car on the boards (such as mine), those wheels would look horrible on it. But fortunately for you the package works, just like undercover89's car, with his lowly 15 inch camaro wheels, but the package just works.
And dont get me wrong, I have a lot of admiration for anyone who can make a stylistic theme look very nice, even though they havent done ANYTHING that I would personally want to do to my car. If you've got a vision for your car that disagrees with mine, and you can win me over, Im always impressed. One of hte reasons I like this thread so much. A lot of you guys that chime in have some really beautiful cars and some very interesting ideas on them. And I give big props to guys who can radically change the attitude and style of hteir cars for the better while using mostly factory parts.
This is mw66nova's car, a good example of making every single choice stylistically with his car that I would never do. But at the end of the day, the whole package works REALLY well and makes for an incredibly good looking car:

I agree that most rattle can do not look good. I dont agree with "The main problem I have with your wheels is I hate those wheels to begin with. The black takes away from their already limited stylistic definition and makes them look a lot more like steelies that have lost their hubcaps."
I dont find these wheels limited in style. Please take a look at my old TA. I have made my current GTA look a lot like my old one. Alas if I put silver wheels on my gold and black GTA it would look stupid. See below for how my first love looked - with those lack of style wheels.
I am considering using pastidip on my current wheels to make them a dark gold on the outside and black on the inlets like the original wheels below.
I really love the way youre car looks! Specially youre all Black wheels!
I love the clean mean look of it!!!!
I bought a set of Formula Wheels yesterday from Thirdgen Ranch. And i will let them be painted glossy black excatly like yours

I check out craigslist all the time looking for thirdgens. Recently I have found a couple of cars that have the original wheels, but they were painted black. Is this some new fad? It just doesn't look right on the original wheels in my opinion. I'm thinking this must be a great look to a twenty-two year old. What started this trend? If I bought a car with blacked out wheels, it would be one of my first projects to restore them. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some cars that look very nice with black rims, but they were shiny (the rims). These two cars that were for sale, it appeared as if the wheels were sprayed with a can of flat black paint. Can someone explain this to me?
Murder Nova has everything blacked out, most are doing a copy thing, personally it looks like crap imo!
For a long time I have run Cragar soft-8's in 17x9 with 4.5" BS with a 275-40-17. It fits great and rubs less than the factory 16x8's. At first I really didn't like the way they looked, but I got a lot of compliments that it made the car look "tough."
It is hard to get a good picture, the contrast between the bright white paint and the dark black wheels, means that most of the time, the wheels are just a black smudge. The first picture is a good example of how poorly they photograph. The second gives you a glimpse of what they really look like.
Eventually they grew on me and I even started to like them.
My car currently has a set of 18x9.5" C5 Speedlines. They were cheap because someone rattle canned them black, but they fit the brakes I'm installing. I'm going to eventually have to do something about how they look...
While I am waiting to install the last of my steering components. I have the C6 corvette wheels off of my car. My stockers are crusty looking from never being cleaned before I bought them. So I think the black looks pretty good with my car. I just used plasti-dip for the rims (so I can remove it) and yellow latex paint to hand paint the letters (PITA... lol!).

Reason: try to add picture
I didn't have time to read through all 9 pages of this thread, but since I have all black Corvette C6 Z06 replica rims I thought I would give my why I choose them in order of priority. Here's my deal:
1) Showcase the newly installed 2015 Vette base brakes with Grey 4 piston calipers all around.
2) Make it more difficult for local law enforcement to determine acceleration, when using their eyes only, because you can't see or hear wheel spin when everything is black and your tires are gripping and not screeching.
