Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I wouldn't do it to my current ones since they are original.
three colors just dont look right to me...
see:

not that this color is ugly combo but just dont like it personally.
Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
friend of mine has gunmetal zr1's with polished lip. very much do not like those wheels. the stock color looked soooo much better. that car is a purple '95 z28. car looks great, but the wheels just do not fit.
his other car is a black '94 z28. black zr1's with polished lip. those wheels would look good on there without the lip. but the way it is right now, from 20 feet it looks like the car has 15" wheels on it.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I did the ZR1's since my car had ZR1's on it when I bought it, but in silver. I found a set of actual corvette grandsports with new tires for cheap and snagged them. Painted the rear bumper just like the 2002 collectors edition. I love that look of the TA and the stock TA wheels arent too much different than a ZR1. To each his own I guess
I'd rather see 18's on these cars myself. I had my 18/19 C6 gray wheels on the TA before and surprisingly didnt like it as much as i thought I would. All black may be a better choice for that style wheel on that car. I like 18's with less sidewall.

I hated black wheels but theyre really starting to grow on me. I still prefer gray, but black looks really good on some cars. That silver IROC is gorgeous, chevyboy.

How would these look on my red/black 83? Would they even fit properly?

I normally hate black on black & even the "big" polished lip only kinda looks good, but the black on black on this Vette looks downright sinister!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
When i was in highschool and still didn't know much about paint I thought it would be a cool idea to black out my stock 15's and ended up regretting it later. Recently I decided to refurbish them and I was pretty pleased with the result. Here's a couple pics. You can't see it too well unless there's direct light but the black is metallic.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I think the blacked out OEM wheels on the black firebirds look bad-*** as hell! Something a "villian" would drive! I was looking for pics to see how they'd turn-out and there are some great photos on here. I'm going to talk to my powder coat guy tomorrow about shooting them in matte black. Did you just buy the black center caps and nuts? Or paint them too? What am I looking to spend per wheel? I'd imagine they'd have to chemical clean them first, my wheels are 25 years old!

Take a look at my album for more pics

I kept my black WS6 center caps from my gold GTA crosslaces (in storage) and the stock lug covers and they match well and still I stay stock for shows!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
$230 for all 4? That is a great deal. I'm in SoCali were everything is frig'n expensive. I'm aimming for $100ish a wheel. Anything less seems to be a great deal and anything more is a rip off. In this area at least. If its more than that I may explore buying new wheels. I do love the classic OEM one's.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
All set to get the '89 Formula OEM wheels prep'd & powder coated matte black Friday. Kinda a butt pain since I need to go to work, come home at lunch, take the wheels off, stick the car on jack stands I just borrowed, all ghetto in my driveway, then have my buddy drive me to his shop to take the tires off the wheel, then drive me to the powder coat place and home. I ride my bicycle all weekend anyway, then the same thing on Monday. The price is really good but I had to pay an small "express fee" to have the wheels by Monday...I need it to get to work and it would cost more to take a taxi all frig'n week. Just took some "before" photos and ordering black center caps and lugs on ebay now. If they do a good job I'll post the shop info on here.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
YES, but you're in sunny Ohio and I'm in Sunny Cali. I don' think we'll end up in the same Walmart parking lot so you will still be unique! Honestly, I wanted to powder coat the rims when I got the car and jumped on this website to see if there were any examples. Not too many. I think its looks sick...I like the "Stock with a Vengence" look.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I personally think black wheels look great, I hate anything shiny or chrome or blingy. I prefer matte black to glossy black. I decided to go with black because I plan on beating the crap out of my car on the road course. The amount of brake dust from a good pad will cover a wheel in a few corners, so why not make the wheel that color to start with? I know everyone has different opinions, this is just mine. I have 2 sets for my GTA, 18" HRE 545 with polished center "for now" and matte dark grey lips, and a set of C6 Z06 18" in gloss black for track use. I would have bought matte black, but I could not find any.
