Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
i like blacked out wheels..
My Titan used to have satin black powdercoated 22's on it with a 2/5 drop and almost all the chrome on it was blacked out.. i like the look, others dont. Guess what... i drive it and enjoy it so others opinions dont really matter.
I plan on having my ROH snypers powdercoated black after i get them widened and have the rest of the car complete. Depending on what color i paint the car is how much black i will do on the wheels. Looking at painting the car the color of a 2010 Toyota RAV4.. its a pretty nice grey/blue color.

I say bad paint jobs are the key here, not necessarily the color. I remember one of my hub caps was broken on an old saturn I used to have, so I removed them all. I thought it looked great with those steelies showing. Then I realized it made it look even cheaper....
I mean tbh, it's all about preference, budget and time. Many a time do they conflict. We all know that guys.

well rims with hubcaps arent good looking without the hubcaps but the stock rs wheels do not look bad black. Its all in preference. Its not for everyone. Just like chrome isnt, or this color. or that color!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
IMHO, your first example is good because of the polished lip. Need the polished lip or contrasting color (red/yellow) painted on them.
The second pic looks like he's rolling on 4 steel spare tire wheels.

That's what I used to think but I saw this sweet Pontiac Solstice that was all black and had black rims with no polished lip, that car was sexy as hell!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I don't like black wheels, even with polished lips. All you see from a distance is a silver ring, with blackness in the center.
I grew up when cars had hubcaps that fell off (they didn't bolt on back then). Driving a car with black rims back then meant you drove a POS.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I also love this picture. I did that (used to be my car). The rims were charcoal when purchased. I sprayed them gloss black (rattle can) and polished the lips. Actually, I took the factory back wheels and replaced them with fronts so the car had deep lips all around. I also applied the decals and black stripe on the cowl hood. Why in the hell did I ever sell that car?

I think black wheels look great. I can't wait to throw these Ruff Racing 278's on my Camaro after I put it back together. Here they are on a 4th gen Trans Am.

Those rims look hot on that 4th gen. Personally I think black rims look better when they have black center caps instead of chrome ones.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
what about just getting the grey part of stock firbird wheels painted black, i think it would look good on a black or white, maybe red car, and then either chrome or polish the silver part of the wheel? i want to do this with my wheels actually

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
Someone might have said this already but I think the larger a wheel is the better it looks black. 20s or 22s that are chromed look too big IMO but with some black out they tend to "fit" better.
On the other hand 15" wheels that are blacked out look way too small.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
love the rims man! I did the same to mine, black with polished lip. Except im still looking for 2 fronts for the rear. Do you have any other pictures of this car so i can see how the rims tuck in the rear fenders? i would like to see the stance. Ive never liked the lip on rear gta wheels.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
For me, it is not about the fad...at all.
It is having a body color wheel just like this
In my case I wanted the 88 formula wheels in sliver.. but since I have a black and gold GTA the silver would of not looked right but I like the TA style (deep dish turbos as they called them on the brochure) better than the BMW style cross laces. The reason they put those on the GTAs was that was the standard style of BMW wheel of that era and they wanted it to have a european flair. Typically I dont like black wheels either.
I drove to an outside fancy mall hangout popular with the rich in the area and I got as much comments about my car as if a lambo was rolling by the black wheels (glossy) at night look hot! They look better than the pic after I waxed them up and tireblacked the wheels!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
I don't know, would you want a light blue rim if you had my car? lol.
You've got a beautiful, low mileage original car, but I have to admit everytime I see your sig with those black wheels I die a little inside...especially since the car has a tan interior and not a black one. Still a beautiful car, but I'd love to see it on the stock rims.
Then again, I like stock RS wheels and would rock them forever if only they were 8" wide so I could put a 245 on them. Of course as it is the fronts hit the tie rod ends on full lock at just 7" wide, bone stock.

http://www.gtasourcepage.com/forum/album.php?albumid=21 Mine are the 245s on 16s (stock size). My original Golds are 100% perfect! One day I may change them, but tempted to power coat them to black too.. but I cant do that since they are stock. it would make me die a little too!
And actually I think your car would look good with the same color rims. I guess its just me.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?
unfortunately for they guys who dont like black wheels, i don't think this is a fad, i've got the 91-92 Sears catalog with black wheels in it(i know they've been out far before that), only been growing since
i do have to say the black wheels i posted will be the only style i would ever choose to put on my car, meaning the entire outline of the wheel is polished so even from far away you can see the details of the wheel, unless i get a GTA, then its the Black GTA wheels all the way, thats not saying i dont like a fully black wheel, or black/w polished lip
