That black on black Vette was your old one? What happened to it? That car looks amazing. IMO my black gta would only look good with black wheels.

Okay well I got the wheels mounted on my car

not bad for some 80 dollar powdercoated rims which were nevermounted. add a few dollars for the mounting and balancing, then quite a few more for the black chrome lug nuts and locks and I got a nice set! I went ahead and blacked the front turn signals out and replaced the side lights with black ones for a more complete car blackout. oh and btw its been raining but this afternoon was clear so the car is a tad dirty but i was too anxious to wait til after I washed it!

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

i know back in the day when i had a car but couldnt afford new wheels id paint the stock wheels black to try and hide how ugly they were or the wheels were just messed up enough that they couldnt get cleaned.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

A pure blacked out rim never looked good to me, but I painted the inlays of my stock Z28 rims satin black and left the polished aluminum alone and it looks pretty good, better than the grey it had. It needed a good high contrast (:

Put these on about 5 years ago. I would say before the fad hit full force. I say a good wheel is a good wheel no matter the color.

Those are similar to the style Im looking for to put on my Camaro some day, but billet aluminum, not blacked out. You didnt have to tub the rear end did you? How is the clearance?

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

No tubbing. I am running a 305 35 R18. I forget if the rim is 12 or 11 inches wide. I did have to clean up a couple seams in the wheel wells, but that was only because this car sees some road course and autocross time. On the street I don't think it gets that far into the body. U will also notice good or bad, I did not lower it down to the tops of the wheels. I think you could but I am not sure the handling would be as good. I am thinking of going with a 40-45 series tire to maybe fill the gap when these wear out.

For the record I am not a fan of the stock wheels rattle canned, completely black.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

lol yea completely black is just lazy, I taped mine so that I didnt get any matte on the polished aluminum. That gray color had to go! If you run a 315/40/R18 then it should be tall enough to fill the gap, and still be as wide as the ones you have now. The middle number and the first number is a ratio if one is bigger than it will be wider or taller but if they both get bigger than the width will stay the same as it gets taller. I Would lower my car a bit just to have a shorter center of gravity and less drag.

May i ask where you got your rear tail light blackouts? because i've been looking to buy some and have seen many different options, also what was the price you paid?

Anyone painted rims to look like carbon fiber?
Authentic ones are very expensive so there must be fake ones on some cars.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

I like tastefully done black wheels always have it's not a fad for me . Every single vehicle I've owned excluding a couple beater vehicles has had black wheels most with a polished lip. Its not hard to achieve a decent finish on a wheel with rattlecans with decent prep work and wet sanding. I like the murdered out look if done right. After seeing the wheels on that first gen I'm going to get the wheels on my pro street s10 coated black should contrast nicely with the white body. I painted the 15" 86 z wheels on my car ppg gloss black to match the ground fx and accents until I find a set of aftermarket wheels that I like I think it looks good and matches the ppg arctic white body. I am not a fan of chrome billet or bolting shiny things to a car for whatever reason people do it. Imo people that bolt on as many useless chrome addons as they can and bolt up a set of chrome wheels are as bad as the kids that rattlecan their wheels flat black it does nothing for the car as a whole chrome is overated.

In My opinion, Black Wheels need to have the Silver Lip (Especially on a Black Car) or it just looks half assed

the problem with those wheels is they are not smooth aluminum in the first place, so it's not as easy as just cleaning them and painting the rest black.

I have a thread about it, if you are interested

hahah naw, iv always wanted a cowl hood and black/silver wheels haha, but mines blue, thus nick name "lil blue", love the orange tho bro, hwo much it take to get urs powder coated? just curios

idea i was goin with was black n blue, since its blue with black spoiler, black t tops, black n grey interior, and a black hood, i might as well mak the cowl and wheels black and call it day, though it would look really good, or black racing stripes???

But Hey, It's your car. If you like it the way it is, that is all that really matters, I mean that. I am sure there are people who don't like something I have done to my car, but guess what? It's my car, I'll do what I want.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

It really simple...Black rims are easer to keep clean, you don't have to whip out your rag to clean them every time brake dust starts to collect on them, unlike chrome, your always cleaning them. the more details in the rim the harder it is to clean.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

I saw a nice set at the junkyard the other day but they were on a car for sale. I would have snatched them up. they did a good job blacking them out with the silver lips.

Re: What's the deal with black wheels?

ya know what...I remember when I got my 1988 T/A right off the factory floor, the Union had a deal with all Union member that if you bought a 88 model year, you could go through the Assyembly line and help build your car, so I took advantage of that and in Nov. of 87 walked my 1988 model year car through....The bitch thou was I wanted a 5sp with a 5.7 and T-tops, but Pontiac said no to the 5.7 and T-tops with 5sp, you could only get it in 5.0, the 5.7 was for hard tops and Auto...sucks....but it is what it is....right now I am tiring to find out what is the most tire I can stuff under the tire wells with out having to mod the fenders or inner well to make it work..I am looking to up-grade the rims to 19-20 front to back. or 18-19. witch ever I can get rims and tires for. I always liked the black color.....my Z-4 bmw is this color..and its still a pain to keep clean....nice ride thou....keep it clean,
