Rookie Mistake
I was at the Pull It yard yesterday (I'm there ALOT). there were some new cars that they had gotten in and i went to check them out. One was a 1999 Monte Carlo. It had some pretty nice 16" Alloy Wheels and the tires were pretty nice too. Since my Camaro has some very beaten Crager SS 14" Wheels, I wanted to upgrade to a larger size and get some good tires in the process. The Wheels that i wanted wasn't a full good set because the car had seen trauma on one side and one of the wheels was quite hopeless. My plan was to grab two wheels/Tries off of the Monte Carlo, and two Wheels/Tires off the Lumina right next to it. Both had 16" Wheels. Since a wheel with a Tire off ANYTHING is $15 at the Pull It yard, i got all 4 as planned. I was worried that someone else would get them if i didn't act right then. I acted stupidly. Here is EXACTLY what i got:
(2) 225/60R16
(2) 215/65R16
I later found out that these are about an inch taller than what's on the car. I figured that i could drive around on em for a while and save for some nice tires. Surely that would salvage the Purchase, Right? Wrong...... The Bolt pattern was different. They won't even fit. I figured that since they came from GM cars, i'd be in the clear. I'm well informed now. I figured that i MIGHT be able to use some Adapters because not only were the holes wrong, but they had too much backspace and the adapter would put the wheels closer to where they should be. Turns out that i CAN get some adapters, but it's $130-$170 a set. That defeats the purpose. While i like the wheel pattern from the Monte, I don't think it's worth that money. Now i'm stuck with two pair of NICE 16" wheels and tires that i can't use. Hopefully someone that's new to this reads my post before they go to the junkyard looking for wheels and i save someone their hard earned money. That way, at least, something good will come of my mistake.
