Tires vs Price
Was looking for good tires just for the summer but for a good price.
My buddy offered Rike Raptors.
I own C6 wheels 17x9.5, looking at front: 245/40 back: 275/40 or should I do 45 in the rear?
want some opinions, suggestions an pictures please. I just thought $550 for a full set was a bit much but thisll be my first time putting 17's on

Re: Tires vs Price
$550 is about right.
I buy 245/50/16 - I get Khumo from tirerack.com, usually about $80 a piece.
Nothing is cheap these days!

I was just checking, I bought my cooper cobras a few years back all around 330$, which i thought was great and they were great tires in my opinion, great top speed and quiet, very smooth.

I've had a great experience with Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 tires. Driven them about 500 miles so far.. Had them about 2 months last summer and now so far one month. They perform great in wet and dry and surprisingly decent in the cold. Handling and braking they are superb as well. I do recommend them as they are very quiet as well.

Re: Tires vs Price
But I'm not sure if your size choice is a typo or not. In a 17" tire, the 245 with the correct diameter for a thirdgen is 245/45, not 245/40. The 275/40 is correct though. The 245/40 is an inch shorter(smaller in diameter) than the 245/45 and 275/40. But maybe you're going for a lower-in-front look?
I've seen people install a combination of 245/45 front, 275/40 rear, for a narrower tire in front. But personally, if I were putting-on wheels as wide as 9.5", I'd want the wide tires to go with it, so I'd go with 275/40 all around.

$500-$550 seems reasonable, even appears to be on the low end for tires in that size range.

Re: Tires vs Price
Camaronewbie how do you like the performance of the Kumho tires? I am leaning toward a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX tires. How good are those Kumho tires really? Thanks in advance.

Re: Tires vs Price
I run Kumho Ecstas on my BMW 530 with 19" M5 wheels. A lot of guys with Euro cars that need big tires run the same. Only difference I notice is that they are a tad louder and that's the only "complaint" I've heard from others. Nice tire, wears well, good handling.

Re: Tires vs Price
I've run a few different tires. But never an expensive or GOOD tire. However, after having a taste of what a good tire can do to a car I'll spend the money now for a good tire. But budget dictates what you can choose.
Right now for my car, and for what it will be capable of and what I intend to DO with it i'm going for the Nitto NT05's all around. I'm considering the NT05R's for the backs, but I may get caught out in Rain sometimes and the NT05Rs aren't very good in rain at all.
If I could afford it there would be too, a track day DOT tire, and street tires, but I will have to live with street tires.
