92 firebird tire size help

Hey everyone, I live in a small town with lots of dips and high curbs that the doors keep getting stuck on. I figure that getting larger tires is the easiest way to raise the car a bit. I only need about an inch more height. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the biggest tire I can fit in the car on the front. I'd prefer to keep front and back the same size. I currently have the stock 215/65/R15 tire size and I'm going to need new tires soon anyway. I'm mostly concerned about tire height, but wider tires would be nice too. Any thoughts on this?

Re: 92 firebird tire size help

To gain 1" of ride height, you need 2" of tire height.
That would be a 235/70R15.
But I submit that your original springs are sagged, so the 28" tires will rub.
I suggest new springs first, like Moog 5662s up front, and either 5665s or CC635s in back. If that's not enough, then try some 27" tires in place of your 26" 215/65R15s.

Good point with the springs. I'll have to check them out when I look at the brakes. You think the 28" tires would fit though? It looks like it to me, I was just looking for someone with experience using such tires.

Re: 92 firebird tire size help

fitting 28" tires under the rear is nothing new. Because that's what the 275/60R15s are. But up front, I can't recall ever seeing pics of anyone fitting tires taller than 26.7".
I believe 235/70s would fit, but you'll need to just start with 1 pair for the rear, then try them up front before committing to a full set of 4.

To check your springs, you can measure ground to fender lip height & compare it to the height of when they were brand new. Or to somebody that has known good springs on their car.

Stock height is roughly 28.5" to 29".
