factory wheel spacer usage

factory wheel spacer usage
ok ,my iroc has 16 wheels on the rear,i also have aluminum drums ,there is a spacer that goes on the drum/lug studs before you put the wheel on.my question is; is this correct? i have the GM service manual for my car and it shows them in the diagram ,however it makes no mention of drum construction.i know that the mounting flange on the aluminum one is thicker than the iron one.and i have been told that the spacers were only for the 16in wheels/iron drum combo.anyone know the truth on this mystery??
