Wheel/Tire Fitment Questions

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the 3rd gen f-body stuff. I've tried looking around a little bit, but I figured i'd ask. I've got an '85 T/A that I'm building. The wheels and tires on it right now are garbage. I found a perfect set of 17" Eagle Alloy 077's in the junkyard for about $150. They've cleaned up great and are nearly perfect. They came off a 4th gen camaro. Now, from what i have read, i need some kind of hubcentric spacer. Where would I go about finding the right spacer? Anybody got any links or could someone point me int he right direction? Also, i'm shopping for tires for the 17's. Whats the widest tires i could fit on there? front and rear, without rubbing issues?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That is because you don't have to use any hubcentric one. Just bolt them up with the correct spacer.

This page & injfo has only been posted on TGO a bazillion times. Now a bazillion & 1.

Re: Wheel/Tire Fitment Questions

i guess more to the point i was looking for some quicker info..i have several sets of 29 in drag radials and slicks already in my shop..was just seeing if anyone had already known the rim spacing and made these work,,the rear is stock width so if someone says,,heck no they are too much then i would go in a different direction..i'm still building the car so i'm not to the wheels yet but hoping for some quick info..

Re: Wheel/Tire Fitment Questions

ok i've figured i am going to get 2" spacers for front and rear. with that being said, and my wheels being 17x8's, what size tires should i be looking at? would a 245/45r17 front and a 255/45r17 rear work fine?

Assuming that the wheels you got off of the 4th gen camaro are designed for a 4th gen camaro....Yes, that should work fine as long as you want the front tires to be shorter overall height than the rears. 255/45/17=26.03" tall. Same height as original.

^^^not true, unless his car had 15's ...with P245-50-16's.....they are 25.7" tall....these 17's are the same height:
245-45-17
275-40-17
315-35-17....are all 25.7" tall....

minilLSx...if you want to stay with the same height but want the wider look in the rear then I would go with P245-45-17 front, P275-40-17 rear....275's will fit just fine on a 8" wheel...

IF it's a 1985 model Trans Am, it came with 215-65-15 tires, which are 26" tall. Only GTA's and FORMULAS had 16" wheels, and they weren't available until the 1987 model year. Still, not enough diff to quibble about between 25.7" and 26" anyway tho...
