It would help to know the weight of your wheels for people to know whether another wheel is lighter than yours.

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

I cant find specs online, but i think they are like 28lbs... i would even love some factory wheels too for trade, speedlines, firehawks in 3rd or 4th gen style. but overall i want to drop some weight, and my C5 brakes are really limiting it...

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

I have 17in Billet Specialties Rally wheels on my 91 and they are very light. Street Lites or Weld RTS wheels would also be good options.

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

What's the budget?

Put some serious thought in the ctw wheels, they fit right with no spacers and are very light forb the money.

Is that a kore3 hub or a CTW centercap sticking out in that pic?

Ooops. That is indeed the optional aluminum dust cap from kore3 that you are seeing. I have pictures of both configurations. Here is one with the CTW center cap.

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

If you're not firm on that size, C5 "wagon" wheels are about 20 lbs. Front: 17x8.5", weigh 19 lbs. Rear: 18x9.5", weigh 21 lbs.
About $400 to $500 a set.

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

yeah ive considered them, ive seen sets from 150-400 around here on CL. I would have to powdercoat or plasti dip them... i found a set of 4th gen hawk wheels(thin 5 spoke) in chrome, im sure not much better... i would go with drag style stuff, but i cant run 15's up front and 17 inchers arent cheap!

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

The problem with C5, C6, or 4th gen wheels is the fact you need spacers to make them work - which adds quite a bit of cost and some weight - thankfully at the hub, not the wheel barrel.

17" certainly isn't cheap, but the tires are less expensive than 18" and are typically lighter with good brake clearance (depending on spoke design). We are all aware of the limited selection of 245-50-16 tires out there.

Re: Lightweight 17 inch wheels?

thanks paul, yeah i have a set of skulte 2 inch adapters already from past 3rd gens and 2wd s10s running newer wheels. I basically like factory wheels or drag set ups but not really sure i want to ditch my C5 brakes, they stop so much better w/o pushing hard or nose dive like the stockers did on my other birds!
