Im not sure which to pick. 17x7 or 18x8

Im looking at 2 sets of wheels. They measure:
17x8 w 4.5 backspacing with 1.6 offset
and 17x7 w 4.25 backspacing and 8.4 offset

Id prefer to run the 17x7 as im trying to run a streetable drag setup if that makes any sense? I dont want to put front runners on the car and i found a set of 7 in wide wheels that i like. the rear of the car is getting 15x8 with 4.5 bs and 275/50-15 tires.

im running the 17's up front because i have ls1 brakes. how will the ls1 brakes affect my offset?

what are your opinions on the 2 wheels?

Honestly 17s up front and 15s rear is IMO is totally lame.If your going to run 17s do it all the way around .And that 275 is going to need a 8in. rear as you already know.
Anyway here is a list of 275/50r17 performance tires = http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...DI7ATSEA&pbx=1
There are twice as many tires to choose from in all different styles in that size compared to the 15s

Re: Im not sure which to pick. 17x7 or 18x8

the 15's are going in the rear because i want to have the taller side wall for launching the car. i cant fit 15's (unlesss i go w a 15x3.75) in the front because of the ls1 brakes, and the racestar wheels dont come in a 16. so im stuck using a 15x3.75 which is too skinny for the amount of street driving i plan to do, and race star does not make a 16.

so im stuck with 17. im not doing this cause i think its a cool idea, im doing it because of functionality. i want to be able to take advantage of my ls1 brakes and i cant do that with skinnys.

I'm only offering this information to possibly give you a different wrought if you want it. This is a 15x7 wheel with 3.75 BS and a 235/60r15 tire. Tucks in just fine.I don't know if the race stars are offered in that size wheel but if they are you can get away with it.That's it.I'm done unless you have any questions.

im not trying to be a pain in the butt so sorry if i am.

15 inch wheels wider than 3.75 are not going to fit because of the ls1 brakes. the calipers will hit with more grinding then it is safe to drive on.

No clue what you're considering for front tires, but I'd start with 225/50s on the 17x8s. I can post pics of how 225/50s look on 8" wheels. I have 'em on my '92 Stealth ES.
