I ordered 17x7 and 17x9.5 because I want it to handle wheel on teh street with this setup on and I can't fit 15's because of my big bear brakes.


I need a 26" overall diameter, so recommend me a tire setup and show me some pictures. I am thinking 205's in the front and a 26" tall ET street in the rear

Have some ZR1 wheels/tires 17x9.5 and 17x11), but the autoart wheels are staying.

275-40 will be about 26" tall on a 17" wheel.

205 will fit on a 7" wide wheel, but that is really narrow for a third gen. Might be hard to find a 205-55-17 tire in a decent pattern.

 

I want them as skinny as possible, since it's my drag setup. Plus my 19s are very close(slightly rubbing) my intercooler piping on the passenger side...

 

Got them in today and they look GREAT!


Now, the search for a good skinny tire for the front!

 

Mickey drags will work well. Maybe even nitto nt05r's

I run the nittos in 315/35/17 on my 320 whp ls1. Not super powerful but 1.66 60's with little track prep and no suspension work. Seems like a good tire

Now my friend drove a supposive 800+ whp challenger on 20" nt05r's to a 1.6x 60 with a 6 spd at tx 2k12. That was impressive but car only ran like it had 700 hp, trapping 130. But tires worked.

Now my twin turbo car runs on mickeys in 19" size and it dead hooks from just about any roll on street and estimated 600-750 whp depending on boost. Very impressed with them. The compound in 17" will work just as well

 

Oh side note i would have looked at 9.5" all around for handling and swapped fronts with a 17x4-5 wheel with a 185 radial runner. Like a gto spare or similar. Ultimate setup for drag, i dont see a 205 working for handling on street. Too skinny

 

WELL............... thanks for that vote of confidence. I have a set of 315/35s(Mickeys), but was wanting to go full slick. I will probably just get the tires swapped off of the ZR1s they are on and on to these Racestars and then buy two skinnies....(215/50 is what I decided on), They are 25.45" tall and about the same height as what I currently have.

 

Didn't mean like extreme handling. Just hey Andrea(my wife), drive the Iroc to the garage from the gas station and it feel more normal to her.

I know I'm giving up weight with the wider wheel and radial, but I think overall it will be worth the "normal car" feel.

Just hope the 315s will go under these fenders without too much work!

Someone makes a full slick in 17" i think hoosier. My buddys twin turbo 6spd silverado runs it and has been 1.5-1.6 60's, 700 ish rear wheel. Heavy as hell and still trapped 130

Mickey may still make a et street bias ply as well

 

Keep in mind with a 205 on the front and a 315 on the back, the car is going to under steer badly, not going to be treacherous, but it will be present.

 

Oh yeah. I've driven with skinnies many times before. I just want something a little more street able for longer trips.

 

i just saw these wheels on summit racing and they look good. will these hold up to high performance street use and occasional road course? what backspace do i need to run a 17x9.5 in the rear and 17x8 or 17x7 front? suspension is near stock now. its an 86 z28 with a tpi 383, 430 crank hp, built 700r4

 

17x9.5 with 5.25 backspacing fit my car well. I will put up some pictures soon. I have a 17x7 in the front though.


You should be able to fit 17x9.5 front and rear, but could do 17x8 if you want more clearance...

here is my car with 17x7 fronts and 17x9.5 rear. i think the fronts are 225/50 and the rears at 275/40, both 27.9" tall. next set of tires i will be running a 295/40

 

Did you ever get these mounted up? What tires did you end up running and what backspace did you go with on the front?

Who makes a 295/40?

 

Only Kumho in the semi slick tread pattern. Not a normal size - 285-40-17 is about all you can get (unless you want 315-35-17).

I have heard from Autocross guys and read reviews saying the NT05's are horrible in the rain, 55mph was the fastest any of them would go in the rain. I passed on buying a set based on what they said. If you don't drive in the rain won't matter to you though.
