Torq Thrust II on GTA

theres a lot to comb through in here and this may have been answered somewhere but im going to ask anyway...
i own a '90 GTA with the stock 16" mesh wheel. i'd like to step up to a 17" wheel to clear some future brake mods. i know there is a 20 mm offset difference front to rear on my car since it has the 9 bolt... i really like the torq thrust II (i know i know, outmoded, overused blah blah ) but im not sure what bs/width will fit.
i want to get the max footprint i can in the back, got some mods on the engine/driveline that the old 245's just cant hook anymore. the car has eibach sportlines so about 1.5" drop, i'd like to avoid rubbing as much as i can. i dsilike wheel spacers but if someone has a max width on the torq thrust/spacer combo i'd love to hear any input. (want to coat the centers gold to stay with the flame red/gold badging theme)

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

The offset on the fronts is 16mm. I don't mind the wheels you want, I see them more on Camaro's than TA's so get them if you want. What I would do is make sure to get the same -16 offset on all the wheels or at least -16 on two of them and maybe more on the other two if you want that wider stance on the rear. I have my wheels flipped with a 1/4" spacer in the front and it looks killer, the rears don't stick out really, but looks mean and correct. I that deeper look in the front just looks dumb to me.

Both incorrect. The offset for the factory wheels in the front is 0mm and the rear is 16mm. You can put 0mm offset wheels on all four corners. Doing this will actually make the rear track wider than the front and your car will handle better.

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

thanks for the correction, yeah rear wheels are offset 16 mm. what im looking to find out is if anyone has maxed the wheel/tire combo in one of these cars with that wheel and drop, and if so what wheel/tire size and what spacer if any is needed. id also prefer not to roll fender edges since this car is immaculate and i dont want to do anything that cant be fairly easily undone

17x9.5 with 5.5" backspacing is pretty standard. I have 6.0" backspacing up front with 1/2" spacer to clear the big brakes.

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

LOL THAT is the car that made me want to do the torq thrusts! looks great. i think i want to run the baer black label 13" kit on the front. i gather that with the hub adapter it pushes the wheel out a little bit. my main concern was with the rear, since it has the offset wheel. does your car also have the 9 bolt?

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

Yes my car has the 9-bolt but it's the same width as the 10. I assume you're talking about the black label kit that Hawks sells? With those brakes you could fit 17x9.5 all the way around with 5.5" backspacing on each wheel.

Re: Torq Thrust II on GTA

yup thats the kit im talking about i'd like to step up to maybe an 11" wheel in the rear if i can, the mods i have planned for the engine are going to need as much rubber as i can get without getting crazy and cutting stuff up and even with the mild mods i have right now the 245's dont stick for crap. i see youre in grand rapids, not too far! curious how much room you have left inside/outside with the 9.5's

Spare room front or rear? The fronts rub slightly on full lock - the rears clear everything. I could not put the 6.0" bs wheels on the rear because the parking brake cable got in the way and I didn't care (6.0" bs wheels are for the front). I'll have to fix the cable when I put 17x11s on the rear this summer.

Rears are 17x11 with 7" back spacing. Take a 17x9.5 with 5.5" back spacing and add the extra width on the inside.
