1985 Pontiac T/A wheels

What type of material are the factory wheels for a 1985 Pontaic Trans Am made from? Are they aluminum or something else? I'm wondering if they can be polished to a bright finish or if they must be painted. I have the slotted wheels that are silver color with black inside the slots.
