So Im going to end up buying these for my car

http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS-Performan...72411/10002/-1

Im planning 17x8 back and 15x7 in the front and i would like alot tread in the rear. What would be the the max width of tread i could go in the rears? The car is stock right now and i was wondering if i would have to mod it to fit fatter tread I plan to use 225s in the front and i was thinking of 265s rear.

Oh one more thing What brand tires would you recomend for a street/drag set up. I was thinking Bfg radials or mickey Thompson street radials

Re: wheel fitment and width

Why would you put 17s in back and 15s in front. That doesn't make any sense and will look really weird.

You should not use 15" on one end and 17" on the other, go the same size all around - whatever it may be.

An 8" wheel is going to support a max tire width of 245 - most 17" drag radials are 275 width and need at least a 9" wheel (9.5" or 10" is best). You can certainly widen a set of 8" wheels to 9.5", but why not get the 9.5" from the start and save $ and effort.

Agreed. You can fit a 295/50R15 on an 8 inch wheel, but you can fit it on a 10" wheel with the right offset and put 15x8s on the front. For 17s, it is no longer any challenge to fit a 17x9.5 on the front and a 17x11 on the rear, with 315/35 drag radials on those 11s. And I think I recall reading that one person here tried a pair of 335/35s.
