hi all ive got a 1989 trans am gta im restoring, however the tyre sizes thats on it are 225/45/16 front 235/60/16 rear, which does not look right, im going to be restoring it back totally original, so am i right in thinking the correct tyres from the factory in 1989 were goodyear eagle radial tyres, size 245/50/16 is that the same size front and rear, also is it zr or vr tyres, help would be much appreciated thanks

 

You are correct, 245-50-16 is the OEM size.

Keep in mind that the GY Gatorbacks that came on those cars are long ago discontinued, the only real option as a replacement in that size is the BFG g-force sport, a really good summer tire.

 

back then there were numerous selections for this tire size.... now not many performance tires are left for the 16 inch tires. theres only like 2 I can think of now that are really good..... hopefully they wont be extinct within the next 10 years..... everything is moving to 17 and 18 inch rims now....

 

thanks for the replys, looks like if i cant find any original goodyears might have to go with the bfg g-sports, any will look better than the parished extremo tyres on the front and contact sport on the back, as there totally gone, but again thanks for the replys
