Tire size and options for my stock 14 inch Rims?

Hey Every Im new here,

I just picked up a 1985 Camaro base model and it has these stock 14 inch wheels with 195/75/14 tires on it (white walls at that yuck) I would love to have some 15 or 16 Iroc wheels someday but for now I need to stick with the 14 inch t\rims/ I just can not stand the little tires. what size tires can I run on these rims to give it a beefier look?

Re: Tire size and options for my stock 14 inch Rims?

Your choices will be pretty much limited, but I'm sure you can get blackwall tires. Heck, if the tread isn't too bad on those you can have them remounted with the whitewall side facing in. This was a common practice back when whitewalls were still all I could afford. Your rim width really determines how much bigger you can go. You may be able to increase by a tire size or two but that's probably the limit (up to 205 or 215). I have 15" rims and run 215/65-15 tires. The phrase "your mileage may vary" is very true when it comes to tire choices, so bigger isn't always better.

Thanks a lot, Once again sorry for starting a thread when there was already dedicated to one. Yeah the tread is not bad and I will most likely do as you suggest and mount the white wall in for now. Thanks for the advice

How wide the wheels are tells you how wide of a tire you can put on the wheel. . Although some have mounted tires on wheels that are out of the suggested size. Backspacing can also play a roll.

Those look like the optional rally wheels. Should be 14x7.

This is from Tire Rack,Just click on | Specs | under where it says = Additional" Tire Information. It will show you other tire sizes .

Mine are 235/60r15s front and
255/60r15 rear.
Even though mine are larger then yours would be it could look the same only scaled down if you can find the right tire sizes.
It would look similar to this =
I believe the 225/60r14s front and 245/60r14 rear could do it.

Yes Im pretty sure they are 14x7 Tey are the rally wheels but I thought that was just the base wheel until I did see that there was a hubcap option as well. Thanks for your input Im slowly learning

Beautiful looking car my friend. I love them rims and have thought about in the future going with them as well but I got a lot more work to do before I get to nicer looking wheels. I used to work at a tire shop and running a 245/60 on a 7 inch rim is really not a problem. it balloons the tire a little bit but not so much as to cause adverse wear or premature tire failure

Re: Tire size and options for my stock 14 inch Rims?

I have not worked at a tire shop but I use Tire Rack info. along with my own experience with tires and wheels. If I can run a 255/60r15 on an 8in. wheel I see no reason you can’t use the 245/60r15 on a 7in. As you have stated.
I believe that if you’re not using a wheel that falls under the group consisting of what I call "Corvette" style wheels that are on a car that has a very low profile all the way around. Than the other type would fall under the group I call staggered wheels consisting of a smaller wheel and tire front and a significantly larger tire wheel in the rear. Giving it more of a 1/4mile look like the one I chose. Heres a better look from the top =
Your tires would look again extremely close to this using the 225/60r14s front and 245/60r14 rear

I think your right, thanks for the info. I just need to save up the money for a new set. Might be running these stock tires for awhile

Re: Tire size and options for my stock 14 inch Rims?

A 215/70R14 should be perfect for those Rally wheels. I'm still trying to understand why my car with the optional LT aluminum wheels and the V-8 came from the factory with 195/70R14 tires. That was nuts. The base wheel with hubcaps came with 205/70R14's. lol

Yeah I can see a 205 as a stock size tire for this size of a car but not a 195, My 1980 Monte Carlo I used to own came with 205/75/14s from the factory and I always thought that was to small as well but what do I know? I see in 1986 it appears that the rally wheel went from a 14" to a 15" if I got my info right. Yeah I cant understand why mine came from the factory with white walls either. I mean really white walls?

Re: Tire size and options for my stock 14 inch Rims?

there's so much blackwall showing on a 14" tire, you might want to consider white letter tires. All of that black makes them look like oversized balloons, and the white letters break that up

Right I like white letter tires but I think I might just turn my stock white walls around for now until I can afford something else
