I have searched everywhere I know, and this seems to be the consensus, but I just wanted to make sure before I order that I am right on these rims.Going to order a set of Intro V-Rods for my 89. Car is slightly lowered on hotchkis springs. LS1 front brakes and stock PBR discs in the rear. Planning on the following:
Rear Rim 19x10 w 6.25 backspacing and 285/35/19 tire
Front Rim 19x8 w 4.25 backspacing and 245/35/19 tire

No spacers front or rear. Any potential problems with clearance that I can't foresee? Car is at body shop right now so I don't have a way to get exact measurements off of the car and Intro is 8-10 weeks out so I want to get ordered now rather than waiting if possible.'

Should be ok

Rear wheel well may need alittle hammering in the front corner. May rub there with those tires

 

I would suggest you upgrade the fronts to the same size as the rears.

This will give the car better handling balance (more neutral vs. understeer) and also increase handling and braking capability.

 

will that size wheel/tire/backspace combo clear in the front and still have a nice tuck on the wheel wells?

 

I would just be worried about clearance with a 285 up front. Its already tight with a 255 lock to lock on a lowered car

I run 18x8.5 and 19x10 staggered and never had a complaint on handling and stopping power, and i shut down from 170 mph at the strip with a short shutdown and no parachute with a c5 front brake and ls1 rear

 

Go with 275-30-19 tires on all four corners and you won't have to make any modifications. A 275-30-19 tire is the same overall diameter as the stock 245-50-16 tire these cars came equipped with. For a visual reference, the front wheels and tires on my WS6 Trans Am are 19 x 9.5 with 275-30-19 tires.

 

I believe 4th gens had more room up front. I had one and easily fit 275 tires as thats what they came stock with

The diameter isnt an issue, its width and i was thinking a much wider than 245-255 front may reduce lock to lock range on steering

I havent tried wide fronts on a thirdgen. But i know guys have run 17x9 275 tire all around before

 

A 275 tire fits perfectly on 3rd gens. I have 275-40-17 tires on 17 x 9 wheels on my GTA. Both of my cars are lowered, btw.

 

Pretty much anything wider than 245 rubs up under full lock - but won't rub driving with up to a 295 up front - assuming the right wheel specs are used.

Keep in mind that over 70% of braking force is generated by the front wheels and tires - the wider the tires, the more grip - the more grip, the better braking will be under all dry conditions.

 

Thanks everyone - I have ordered the wheels in the sizes I proposed. I understand the compromises of doing different sizes front and rear, but felt like the tradeoff was worth it. We will see how it works when they get here in 8-10 weeks

 

Here are the tire size that you are talking about with 19x8.5 fronts w/a 1" spacer and 4.75 back spacing. I put the 1" spacer in there in order to be able to put on the center caps, without them the caps wouldn't go on. Rears are 19x10.5 with 6.23 rear spacing and a very thin "stock spacer". I had to "massage" the inner rear fender for the wheels in order for them not to hit the inside, not much. No hitting in the front or rear with this set up.

 

A 245/50R16 is 25.7", a 275/30R19 is only just 25.5", and a 285/30 on a 10 is a better match for a 245/35 on an 8.
Others have tucked 285s on 10.5s, front and rear, with room to spare, so IDK why you'd run 8s up front, unless you don't enjoy cornering.
