which tires & size

ok, i finally got my 86TA, WS6 running so now i have to get tires. the tires on it are 245/50/16" but i'm looking for a more low-profile tire. any suggestions on size and brand? i'm not going super expensive...

Re: which tires & size

Are you keeping the 16" wheels or moving up to something larger?

Re: which tires & size

i'm keeping the orig 16" wheels. i like them it's just a problem because it limits my tire choices.

Re: which tires & size

Then you should look into 245/45R16s for the front or all 4, maybe Toyo Proxes TQ 275/45R16 drag radials for the rear. There are no all-season choices in either size, so if you want to drive it all winter you'll need to stick to 50-series, like maybe the BFG g-Force comp-2 A/S 225/50R16. Shorter than your 245/50s, as much tread width as most Chinese 245s
The wheelwells already look under filled with 245/50s, any lower-profile 16s will only exascerbate the problem. The car will look silly to most.

Re: which tires & size

thanks for the reply..... i'm kindof on a budget so i decided to get some 245/50/16 Doral SDL-A Performance Sport-touring tires for $315.00 shipped. i'll mount and balance them myself. getting the old tires off the rims is going to be a real treat though. i'll have to up a pic tomorrow so you can understand. these tires just fell apart. literally...

I'll be eager to read if you post a review of them, I've been considering a set of those.

Re: which tires & size

it might take me a while to get them mounted but only because i getting the old tires off is going to be a real bitch. ordering today. i'll let you know. oh, but in the reviews of this tire, there's a 3rd gen guy who praises them.

Re: which tires & size

I know a guy who got a Strongway manual tire change machine from Northern Tool for like $75, it paid for itself after 2 sets of tires.

Re: which tires & size

Get some Hawks 17x9 gta wheels and throw some 275/40/17's on all 4 corners. I did this to my 92 TA vert and it's such a massive upgrade!

Re: which tires & size

You can go up to a 255 like i have for maximum width, yet within wheel wells...front scrubs only slightly when turning tight to park.

Re: which tires & size

I know a guy at the track that runs new all season continentals. He’s able to pull high 12s through a corvette swapped tune port motor in his 92 z28. His car is pretty stripped down and light as hell, but you can see it lifts the nose pretty well when he takes off.
