Urgent! No 4th gear or TC Lockup! Fresh trans rebuild + shift kit.

I had a friend rebuild the transmission, he's done it before. But never a shift kit.

However the transmission is working fine 1st through 3rd. Shifts are firm and quick. However, the transmission will not shift into 4th gear at all, doens't even sound like it wants to. Also, there isn't any TCC lock up when the transmission is in 3rd gear, and the shift set to "D". When in OD it will not shift to 4th, or lock up the converter.

I think its related to the shift kit install. Can anyone point out what might be causing this?

Here is what was done.
Rebuild.

Trans Go shift kit
Vette servo
.500" boost valve.

HELP!!!!! Various transmission issues have kept my car down since august of last year. Now that its so close I really want to get my car going again.

Torque converter clutch solenoid and it's wiring sounds like a possible winner here.

But wouldn't it still shift to 4th gear, even if the wireing was messed up?

Like said, no 4th gear, or TC lock-up.

If I sound stupid, its probably because I am.

I may need to drive the car home. Will I hurt anything if I have to?

Could it be a sticking valve in the valve body? Where should I look? We've taken the valve body out and looked it over, making sure to be careful that all the check ***** are in the right places, and that the vb was drilled where the instructions pointed.

Does anyone know which SPECIFIC valve deals with the 3-4 shifts?

Thanks for all the diagrams and trouble shooting pages. Though, I think we figured out what happened to the 3-4 shift, no holes drilled inthe seperator plate. The instructions for the kit were unclear.

As for the TCC issue, once I get it to shift into 4th gear I'll look into it it again.

Thanks for your posts, they are very helpful.

HAHA!!!!

Well, after much deliberation we discovered that it was teh 4th gear apply piston in the servo!

So, nah, for all of you who may run into this problem before. Now the info here.

I think this thread may also solve my problem of no lockup. person who owned the car before me removed the ECM. no ECM signal means no lockup. I'll hook up a switch to the lockup wire.

Found out why I didn't have TCC lock-up either. The connector on the transmission has some paint in it. I have to clean it up. But that means dropping the pan and suck. Yay, so much fun.

I thought you were refering strictly to the no TC lock-up issue.

Heck, I wish you were near me trixter, I'd hope on the expressway and bring it over to you for some trouble shooting. My car is a barrel full of electrical issues.

Such as the famous, "My gauge lights don't work unless the driver side door is open. When the door is closed the lights dont' work, and if the dimmer is at anything other than the darkest setting the tach, voltmeter, and fuel gauges go dead, but the coolant temp gauge pegs itself.
