Well, the ABS headliner will have cloth material on it, unless you get one uncovered and leave it au natural or paint it.

i was digging around some other sites like cardomain.com and came across a couple camaro's with just the ABS paint'd to match and didnt like the looks of it at all. so i think i'm gonna order the whole headliner and board for 160 bux from classic industries.(mine doesent have the board or even a headliner at the moment)

Yeah, I got an ABS Headliner too....mine came rolled up in a box...lol (believe it or not)...just opened it up, and it unrolled, and voila! I just made a template for the overhead console, cut it out, and put it in. Very nice piece. You'll like it.

What headliner? I have bare metal. Maybe ill do some mosiac art, like glue some broken mirrors up there.

Mine was rolled as well. It sort of comes to life once you take it out of the box. Real snazzy stuff.

Where did you get your abs headliner from? what was the price? Are they real easy to install, and do they come with hardware? thanks.........

I got mine from Third Gen Resource, but Hawks also has them. I ordered a complete kit (covered ABS board, covered visors, and covered sail panels) so it was more expensive than just the cost of an ABS board. There is no hardware. The installation is very easy. If you have t-tops, you remove the plastic A-pillar trim. You remove the dome light. And you remove the visors. Also, remove the plastic seat-belt guides and the plastic headliner trim by the rear hatch. Remove the old headliner board (if you have one). The new one just pops in. It is held up there by the visors, seat-belt guides, plastic trim pieces and dome light.

thats what i'm tryin to do. all goes in at once.

right now tryin to get everything i need before goin and installing it. i've already got my 4th gen seats, just order'd my head liner, and carpet kit. still need to get new sail panels dash pad and console.

here is mine covered and installed. I did find I had to add some velcroe to the front center as the the plastic is a little heavier than stock carboard one and tended to sag in spots were there was nothing to hold it in place.

My Z28 has no headliner in it now, bare metal. But it is on my christmas list .

I am replacing most of the interior as well. I have done the headliner. I am currently putting on new seat covers (I have the rear seats out) and next, I will put in carpet. Found it was easy to do the headliner. The carpet on the other hand, requires a lot of pieces being removed before installation.

I did my headliner when I got my overhead console and all the mods to it were done. Also, didn't help that half the fabric was peeling off the old one
I did my carpet when I was running all the wiring for my system. I also figured it was a good time to insulate...so, covered EVERYTHING w/ sound killing material....it's very tight now

lots and lots of pieces. start'd guttin the car earlier and had me a hell of a time with the front seat belt bolts, but the car should be completely gutt'd by the weekend. i've already got my sound deadner so i'm gonna install that this weekend and just run all my wires and such for the system and leave it as it till i get the rest of the interior to reinstall everything the way i want it, and it'l also give me time to sand down and paint all the plastic panels and molding in the car to black to match the res of the interior.

Just another question, I havn't had my original headliner board down yet, but has anyone insulated the roof before installing one of these ABS headliners? I was thinking about the self adhesive sound deading type? Thanks......

Ya I hear that. Im way too lazy to buy a headliner for my car. That bare metal up there looks fine to me. LOL

Well, personally, I didn't insulate the top where the headliner is just b/c I was iffy on when the sun heats up the roof, whatever glues/etc. were up there might give...also, didn't chance on staining the ABOVE finish. Maybe I'm nuts, but I don't even see why you have to insulate up there.

The headliner and sun visors look great, but the sail panels don't look like they were covered correctly. My stock sails have somewhat rounded corners, and yours are sharp. Maybe I'm a perfectionist, but that's the only reason I don't want to get them pre-covered from TGR.

Also, did you have any problems with the heavier plastic mounting to the ceiling? Does it sag anywhere?

It 'sags' a little in the front, above the rearview mirror, due to the weight of the ABS board. I thought I would take the clips off my old headliner board and glue them onto the ABS one to keep it tight there. I haven't gotten around to it yet, though.

I got my ABS headliner covered in vinyl!
It looks 10 times better than cloth, plus you can clean it if it gets dirty.

I got one question on the ABS headliner...

Does it come with holes for the seatbelts?

I am getting rid of my stock seatbelts and using a harness mounted to the roll cage, but I don't want stupid holes in the headliner. So, are there holes there? If so, can I get it covered up?

Well, mine came pre-cut w/ "slots" for both overhead seatbelt harness'. I'm not sure if you can get it w/ those not cut. I think it's already made in the form. You'd have to ask the place you get it from.

Allright, I e-mailed the company that (I think) makes them. I should have my answer shortly, or I will call them and ask directly.

One last question, I know ABS headliners are all the rage , and looking at the pics, I can see why. But... what exactly is ABS? What is it made of and what are the characteristics of the material? Specifically, what makes it better?

ABS is a type of plastic. It is flexible...almost like Gelcoat...but it's also very stiff at the same time. It inherits the glue for the fabric MUCH better than that cardboard crap the stock one is made from. It's more or less a hard/soft type of plastic (in search of a better description)

Just a heads up, there is no big cost difference in getting vinyl instead of cloth. I paid an extra 10 bucks for vinyl, so don't pay more than that over the cost of cloth. Always ask for quotes for cloth first, then ask if they have EXPERIENCE with vinyl headliners. That way, you won't get crappy worksmanship from an idiot who just wants a dollar bill.

yeah i hear that bout crappy workmanship, but i know a local guy that does some awsome upolstry work. i know he's done leather headliners, but dunno bout vinyl yet.

hey man glad you posted this up i was confused and thought the abs plastic headliner fora t-top car was like 250 but turns out the t-toppers is like 150$ with sailpanels and visors....i do appriciate it man...lol glad i looked into it a little...
