Griffin 31x19 and FlexALite 210 Fans
hey guys. just wanted to say i got a griffin radiator and flexalite fans this weekend and installed them today. very pleased with the setup. the radiator is the 31X19X3 with dual 1 inch rows. the fans are flexalite 210 dual pullers.
the install was super easy. no modifying other then making my own upper radiator support. also got a flex hose for the bottom and a L shaped hose to tie into my intake manifold for the heater core. this radiator doesnt have a trans cooler, petcock, or heater fitting.

What did you do to make your own upper radiator support? I currently have the same fan setup on a stock radiator and have been contemplating on putting in a griffen 31'' x 19''. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the Griffin 31x19 installed with the factory dual fans right now as well....just use a dremel to slightly mod the upper rad. support to fit the new rad. tightly.

i made one out of an aluminum sheet. then used a piece of foam i got from wal-mart to pad it and hold it really tight. works great!

Looks Good!! Did you modify the lower radiator support any? Kind of hard to tell from the pics.

Looks nice, most of you need to note that the fans are installed with the "through the radiator" ties. That is a nice clean install though. I like the upper mount

the lower support remains unmodified. i made the mount myself i plan to make more and polishor paint them to maybe sell on here since people are really getting into installing this radiator.
the fans come with some brackets but it was easier/faster to just stick the things through the fins. be careful with that though the fins and the plastic things are easily tore up or broken.
fans came with the wiring, the brackets, the ties, and a probe/control box. i bought more wiring to make the install as clean as possible.

Well I finally bought my Griffin radiator. Any tips for the install I plan on doing it tomorrow. Also what temp do you have your fans set for? or do you have the fans running all the time?

Install was a snap, made two brackets to hold the radiator in place doesn't look as good as kevs does tho. Performs excellent, driving down the highway running at 180-185, and starts to cool almost immediately when idleing. Kev if you do make any of those upper supports to sell let me know.

Nice top plate. I just bought a Griffin radiator and will need to make one like that. I'm going to be running dual Spal fans, but I'm going to mount them with brackets. IMO, dual electric fans are too heavy to mount with those ziptie things-- you're just asking for problems.

thezipties work fine. i have had it over 120 mph since and they havent flew off or anything. still running cool with no probs. i have my temp at 190 ish. i let the radiator do most of the work but if you sit for a few the fans come on. radiator supports to sell is a project im going to start in the spring. good luck all...

Also have Griffin 31"x19" radiator but still runs a little warm. Wondering if a dual fan would cool my motor a little more bc its bored 40 over?

Just because the rad is "bigger" doesnt make it cool, it just makes the potential cooling better.
What thermo, fans(mech or elec?), etc.? There are a lot of variables.
Stock dual fans didnt work for me with my northern (same size)...

What is "warm"?
with a 195, 220 wouldnt sound far off. When cruising (highway) what are the temps? stop and go? idling?
Remember the air dam of course. Shroud in place? maybe search a little more, if not start a new thread...

Just went out to car and my air dam is gone so i will get another and if that doesnt fix it I will just have to do more research.

I have this setup on my 82 which has a 350 punched out .40 over. I'm running a 160 thermostat, and it stays at 180-190 going down the high ways and will cool down to 160 when ideling. Def start by replacing the air damn, that will prob drop your cruising temp by 10 degrees. Hope it works out for you!

Yea I would definately get a new air dam, you can get one off of YearOne.com they're not expensive and easy to install. I would put in a 160 or a 180 thermostat especially with summer on the way. Also I saw that jegs has a 31x19 universal with an electric fan and full shroud with the adjustable temp box, also has a catch can. Anyone use one of these with any succees??? Price looks pretty good at $422.

That fan shroud would be fine for a "race car" type setup. however i dont think (not pro here) but the small fan would most likely not be able to pull enough air. if it was a spal or Zirgo fan then maybe.
and for $200 you could get a dual spal setup. so that comes out to roughly the same price $400 or so.

there are no specs on the fan.... most likely a 16", so 2300cfm +/-
At highway that single fan hole will be a restriction. I have the thunderbird/taurus fan and it is a restriction at highway speeds, doesnt cool as fast as before. it only covers 7/8 of the radiator.

Yea stekman thats the setup I was talking about. I'm currently running a
31x19 griffin with the 210 fan setup, I peiced it togather and paid more than the jegs setup. I was just curious if anyone here has run em. I originally had the 210's on a stock radiator, and that wasn't getting the job done, so i bought the griffin, runs were it should be now.
