Whole slew of things....
Hey guys (and gals) just a quick update on my car, then I gotta get back to working on it.
Last night I removed the AIR (smog pump) assembly, and the EGR. No codes thrown (odd??). I also cleaned the IAC, but now my idle is hunting BIG time (500rpm-3000rpm) but I can also hear the hiss of a vacuum leak - all that damned plastic tubing is about to get ripped out, and replaced with HOSE.
REAL RUBBER I-WON'T-BREAK-WHEN-TOUCHED-HOSE!!!
When i get the leak taken care of, then I'll work on the idle.
Heh... also, pulled out the air silencers under the air filters, and instead of cutting holes, I cut out the boxes themselves, and pulled out all that plastic underneath it. Car makes a cool swooshing sound now :P So lots more air being injested, less rotating resistance (smog pump delete) and less weight (smog pump + egr + everything else :P) Sounds like my 17.07 SHOULD be a 16 second now! I hope so... we'll find out in a couple weeks, when next I run the track.
And for anyone wondering, OMG. IT IS SO FREAKING EASY TO CHANGE THE PLUGS NOW!!
Lemme go get the camera, I'll show ya'll...

Wow..it looks so....clean.... Beautiful man, simply beautiful.
How the heck did you manage to break the IAC valve?? Lol, just wondering... No BIGGIE...just another $25-$30....but then a new valve will operate better than an old cleaned one, so....
Hope it runs good once ya get everything fixed up...sounds like a sweet deal to me!

How did I break it? It's FRIGGEN PLASTIC. It's ok - the new one is metal.... ahhhh.... no worries of breaking it there!
I'll get you guys pics tomorrow of the new improved intake

do your self a favor and swap that upper pleunum halve and the TB for the later 3.1 uper plenum and the TB. it deletes that whole vacum leak cuasing POS plastic IAC tube. then just plug it off at the back.

I'm thinking of writing up an article or two on some of this... maybe when I've got a little more time.
As for the plenum, I would, except I just got a nice, new metal IAC.
No breakage there! My vacuum leak is coming from those plastic tubes... about to go out there, get a pic of the intake, then work on the vacuum tubing.

Just leave the egr... the biggest reason I did it, was ease of access to my wires!

Hey, your engine bay looks AWESOME! Do us guys that arent in Cali really need the EGR and Smog pump? What exactly do they do?
Cause if i can get rid of excess weight and stuff I don't really need.... I'll go for it! Let me know... I gotta start cleanin up my bay!

Do you need that stuff in Cali.. Ha ha... Funny question. YES!!! Otherwise your emissions will be so high it'll blow up their machine. :P EGR and smog pump are both major emissions equipment, especially the EGR.

Hey D-man, don't forget to point out who showed ya the air silencer trick.. as many im sure would call it, an enemy from a different "stable", but as far as im concerned, domy's gotta stick together.

does unplugging the smog pump (electric hook up) have any adverse effects on the computer? i have all the stuff off of the back of my smog pump wire tied in there so i could still plug it in. the whole assembly would not fit with the headers. also, i am running no egr, again because of the headers, and occasionally get a code from the computer. it is gone next time i go to drive the car though.

I need an icon of a post rising from the dead....
j/k!
No idea - best way to do it, is to get the pulley you want, bolt it in, and then measure for the belt. You'll need whatever size belt you come up with.. How did you figure 91.5"?

i did all that removing on another car (which is also from a different stable) when i put on the new headers, the guys at the shop that put em on said that i would still pass inspection with out the smog pump being hooked up because there was no place for it on the new setup, however they were wrong, no one would pass that car, i sold it to a friend and some shops told him it would cost alot of money to make it pass emissions, which included removal of the headers and ordering a stock style manifold, so he junked the car, which sucked because i would have taken it off the yards hand but he told them to just kill it and they did, what i'm getting at is if you live in virginia DONT do what doward is doing and definately don't do it in cali they are worse than us
