Gutting the cat wont make you service engine soon light go on. It will make your exhaust louder and if you have emissions testing it will never pass. So if you dont get emissions checks go for it.

Thats pretty lucky to pass without a cat. I gutted ine but in maryland it would never pass, ill be buying a hight flow before i finish my exhaust.
Gutting the catalayic converter consists of breaking up all of the ceramic stuff (whatever it is) inside of it. You just take a ice pick hammer and whatever you can come up with and just break it into chumks from the back. I just disconected the exhaust from behind it. After a little hacking at it start up the car and all the pieces will shoot out.

i thought it was ok if u gutted the cat and shoved a 3" pipe or so inside it, but just gutting it and leaving it was bad, i heard of people hating it and escpecially at any drivethrough they couldnt stand the smell or fumes or something... i dk is this all true? why not just throw a 3" pipe there and screw the cat altogether?
i put a 3" pipe inside of mine.. (just make sure u weld the pipe in or it will try to seperate.) and it got rid of that annoying hollow sound.. but the smell isn't that bad.. u kinda notice it in drivethroughs or inside garages etc.. but its not so bad that it makes u sick.. only when u first start it
bah! i like the hollow sound even though it made my car sound like adamn cobra ...grrr oh well, ...as for the smell, you should smell my 86' that has ALL the emissions removed heheheh
ive smelt a car before that had a 3" pipe in place of the cat, but never a gutted/hollow cat. i just remember reading that gutting it gives off a different nastier smell... not the same as a 3" pipe, is it the same?
not too bad, ...smells a lil like lighter fluid or somthing...i dont suggest it if you want to sit in your car in a garage for an hour or so with it running, other than that, ....screw it lol
