tpi intake questions
Hey, can anyone tell me, or show me a picture would be better, of how the heater hoses are run on a 350 tpi engine? I'm building one from scratch and don't know how they are run. there are two bungs on the front of the intake manifold, so that may be it, but which one is supply and return?
also, there is a large threaded hole in the bottom of my plenum chamber, can anyone tell me what this is supposed to be?
thanks

That hole in the plenum is for the manifold air temperature sensor.

Ok. that's what I was thinking for the one on the plenum. I'm switching from a 3.1L v6 to the 5.7L tpi and both are SD systems. I will probably plug that hole and just keep the one on the intake canister that's still in the car from the v6 intake. my haynes manual doesn't show where the heater hoses go, but I'm going to go look at a newer one. Mine is a few years old, ancient.
thanks for the information.

The other hole on the front of the intake is probably for the coolant temp sensor the computer uses (the temp sensor for the guage is a one wire sensor usually on the driver's side head between spark pluges for cylinders #1 and #3).

Ok. under the throttle body on the left hand side(passengers) there are three holes. One has a coolant temp sensor in it, one has a hose connection on it, and one is empty. I believe that the empty one and the one with the hose connection on it is for the heater hoses, but I'm not sure on which is supply and return. If anyone has a pic of theirs that I can get it would really help !!
thanks

No Picture, but I will tell you how mine is set up. I have removed the diverter valve, and the hard line along the frame.
I have 3 holes on the front of my intake, One has the coolant temperature sender in it, the second one has the cold start temperature sender in it, the third hole has a hose bung in it. This is the supply line to the heater core. The return line from the heater core goes directly to the radiator in my car.
Keep in mind, the stock setup is pretty much the same, except it has the diverter valve on the supply line, which either lets the water flow to the heater core (when diverter is open) or directs the water right to the radiatior (when the valve is closed) My stock setup had a hard line for the return line, which ran along the frame from the heater core, to the radiator, with a line tee'd into it from the diverter valve.
Originally the supply line would come out of the intake, and go through the Throttle Body, then to the Diverter valve, but I think most the people with TPI have done away with the Throttle Body line, and just run directly from the manifold to the diverter.

I have a TPI setup off of an 85 Camaro. There are three threaded holes in the front of the intake. The one on the passenger side is for a temperature activated switch for the cold start injector. The other two holes are vertically aligned. The top hole is for the coolant temperature sensor and the bottom hole is a heater hose fitting. Hope this helps.
