Camaro owners who have done the 4th gen console swap...

Ok let me narrow this down because my last thread liek this was Locked before i could get the information i needed from it. so can we please refrain from bashing each others ideas here?

I went to the junkyard today and i noticed that there are different types of dashes in the 93-00 camaros..... well i want the one that is in Customx's car, but i want to do it like how FlybyNowrs did...

Heres Customx's interior

Flybynowrs...

anyway my origional question to you guys that have done this to a camaro the few that have are you impressed with the results; would you ever go bakc to the stock 3rd gen dash ; what tips do you have for me????

remember lets keep the attacks on others' opinions to yourselves....

It goes 93-97, then 98+. Both the consoles and dashboards are different. And the Firebird parts are different from the Camaro parts but will still fit. So that pretty much gives you 4 options of styles to choose from. I decided to go with 98+ Firebird parts for both my cars.

This is what I am confussed about.

In the 4th gen dash isn't the part by the windshield different? Doesn't it curve more that the stock 3rd generation dashs? Maybe im just crazy! I noticed on CustomX's car where the dash hits the windshield theres a gap. I was wondering, how do you fix that?

Yea i think your right, i am not going to need to worry about that cause i am only gonna do the Center Console swap. but yea i was wondering the same thing.. i was thinking of even fabricating some sort of plate there that would look like a vent like how newer Cavaliers have there.

I believe he was not totally done w/ the swap in that picture and does have plans to fab up a piece to go in there. Hey HamSpiced good luck w/ it if you decide to do it and make sure to post pictures of the finished product.

Well here is my .02 worth......

I used the 98+ Firebird console, you will need a manual one for this to work......

The bolt holes line right up

The console will fit below the cd player location...

You need to remove the A/C vents that are currently attached to the inside of your 3rd Gen console.....

You need to cut the console *LIKE* shown in my picture, not the same if you don't want, but you get the idea......

The right side requires a trial and error process because of the flip-out cupholder....

The empty spot on my 4th Gen console, is where the little storage area is, It WON'T fit, I don't care since i will be adding a custom switch panel to this area.....

You also loose the support that holds together the bottom of the 3rd Gen radio pod....

Any more questions....??

Oh yeah, I will NEVER go back to using a 3rd Gen center console, This 4th Gen one is just so damn cool.....

4 cupholders.....:lala: :lala: :lala: :lala:

1st, The interiors were changed in 97, not 98.

2nd, the center consoles were the same for the Firebirds & Camaros from 97-02, only small things were different, like the design of the shifter plate.

The consoles are the same, slight differences are in the shifter plate, etc.

Take care, be good...

Don't take that the wrong way. Glad you did a search. Much better to do that then to post a whole new topic.

I was just joking....................sorry.

Will a 6 speed 4th gen center console work with a 6 speed 3rd gen.

The center console will be out of a 94 Formula if that makes a difference. Also, will be going in a 89 Formula.

not to steal the thread, but i also have a question.
i have been pondering switching to a 97+ firebird console for my wife's and my third-gens and was wondering if the automatic shift plate from the 4th gen console would bolt up. i'm just looking to keep it that stock automatic look or maybe a b&m or husrt shifter would fit in??? this swap would really give an appereance upgrade along with cupholders . any advice would be appreciated...(pics too if possible)

From what I believe, the shifter in the 3rd gen is slightly ofset compared to the 4th gen, so the plates don't match, but you can use the stick shift plate, but then you loose the true auto look.

the problem is the shifter location on the 4th gen is slightly different, so an auto plate wont work out "nice". Thats why i went with the manual plate. Makes life much much simpler. Plus ..........the manual plate looks fruity imo.

Pics on my site.

if that is so... does ne1 have good pics of say 91-92ish firbird consoles that are modified wih cupholders. that is my main reason for a diff console. plus i wouldn't mind puttin a b&m or husrt in there to make it spiffier
