I Just ordered a bushing kit for the whole car(88 Formula 350). I talked to Energy Suspension to make sure it included every thing I needed and they said yes but dont use the transmission mount. They said they have been having problems with it. They wouldnt say what exacty was wrong other then it hasnt been working properly. Has anybody heard anything or had problems?

 

GREAT! and I just installed one cause I ripped a stocker in 2 on the dyno!

 

I've heard they cause a vibe because the mount is not an exact fit thus changing the angle of the drive shaft. Just what I've heard...

yep just like their engine mounts..........

 

i had heard there were problems with them, but i have had my ES trans mount on for a year now, with the pre-loader plate. i have had no problems with it at all, no vibrations. and to to tell you the truth, that little tranny mount was one of the more noticable mods i have done.

now when i did install it, i put a washer between the x-member and the car , because i had heard of the problem with the mount being to tall.

 

I also used one, but it was too tall. Never had any vibration problems, just wrong driveline angle, but sounds like Dewey had a good fix for that...

I have the ES mount on my IROC. When I first put it in with the 'pre loader' plate, I had vibrations. Took the plate out and no vibes, no problems.

 

yup the plate is where the problem is. go adhead and use it!! you wont be breaking one any time soon...

This seems to be an ongoing debate but per the first post it looks like ES is at least addressing the problem.

BUT, here's my 2 cents....

I installed both the poly engine mounts and the trans mount, with the backing/support/pre-loader plate, and I have NO problems with either one. I don't know why some of us do and some of us don't, just a fluke I guess.

PS: Chet: F'N BEAUTIFUL car man. I know you said Flame Red Metallic, but is it the factory color or has it been sprayed? My Iroc is the same color (74U) and I'm trying to get all my stuff straight before she goes in the paint booth.

I'm thinkin if you used their motor mounts too that the combination would cancel each other out and the pinion angle would go back to stock.. All it would take is to lift the front of the engine the same amount. I had some vibration with the new mount, tried the trick dewey mentioned and it really cut down on the vibration. .I'm thinkin of droppin the crossmember a bit more and maybe it'll totally be gone.

 

I had the same problem. Took out the plate, no vibes. Have had this trans mount for at least 4 years and no problems.

 

What about a solid tran's mount. any problem's with those

 

A solid mount? You will HATE IT on a daily driver. Race cars only.

 

what will the solid mount fell like? I have a friend with an 87 iroc and it has the zz430 moter in it. and he has a solid mount in it but it has a really really really bad vibe going down the road

 

You will most likely crack the transmission case. The trans is not meant to be a solid stressed member of the car. The stress from no rubber to cushion the case will cause cracking and will leak fluid.

 

I've heard repetitive comments with the Tranny mounts from Energy Suspension having mainly on issue. With all the new compound bushings, the firmness is a good thing, but the transmission mounts seem to be too firm from Energy. Their so firm that may folks are getting a ton of vibration that carries though the rest of the suspension and can really feel it in the shifter, streering wheel, and the seat of your pants.

 

that is sometimes true, maybe not tot he extent to the vibes int he steering wheel. Usually you pickup more road noise with the mount, and other problems like improperly balanced tires, bent rims, ect become more noticeable with the poly mount. Also the poly mount doesnt smush as much, so the driveline angle can change and create vibration in the driveshaft.

True.. I've recently had a issue arrise. Was getting vertical (up and down) vibration after 60 mph. I thought I had a tire out of round. After balancing, issue was still there, so I checked the trans mount. Rubber is all good, but noticing a tiney bit of play in the front end of the front U-joint. The shaft that runs into the back of the manual T-5 tranny. I thing the seal is worn. 22 year old seals and bushings look like I'm going to be replacing the whole kit of bushings / mounts.

Oh the fun part is that the crosmember that the 2.8 manual 5 trans mount goes into supports a trans mount that no one makes anymore, and the replacements won't go into, due to the huge cutout in the existing cross-member. Getting upgraded crossmember with bolting that supports the V6 2.8 and the V8 I'm going to drop in.

Thinking I might just change all the suspension componants to lighter/stronger tube type to prepare for the extra horsepower.

Thoughts???

 

not a bad idea, check UMI, spohn and BMR for most things

 

what size was the washer? I like that fix you took out some of the height of the mount. that's smart. I used the 6.99 advance auto mount and now the wheels at slow speeds act like the bearings are gone or going
